Would be a good get for the Big East too.

I hope this is facetious. Let's not forget what this conference is founded on. Basketball. Basketball basketball basketball basketball basketball.

The University of Toronto's 'Varsity Blues" are currently 2-6 this season, and lost to Illinois-Chicago in a preseason game this year by 37 points. This is the same UIC team that lost to DePaul.

Seriously, you would let that keep the Univ. of Toronto out? If we add a public eventually, let's say UConn, I'd be all in on inviting Univ of Toronto at the same time. Huge public university, huge market, big splash. No doubt, win win win. That's why the Big Ten has been rumored to consider them in the past.

you have to be trolling. This is more absurd than the guy who thought Duke would leave the ACC.

Just because the university is big and the city is big doesn't mean it's a good move. By similar reasoning, the Big East should add Loyola Chicago or Boston University because hey big market and tons of alumni and who cares if theyre even on the same planet as the rest of the conference. Any team can have a bad 37-point loss to the team that finished in dead last in the Horizon League.

Let's put it this way. The University of Toronto FOOTBALL team plays in a stadium half the size of Cintas Center. It only holds 5,000 people. It's basically a high school field, and they can't even fill it. The University of Toronto is the largest university in Canadian Interuniversity Sport. That shows you how much Torontonians care about college sports.

This is Toronto's basketball gym. Varsity Arena. Capacity 4,116.

Even if you had them play at Air Canada Centre, that would look pathetic on TV. Toronto isn't happening.
Al McGuire: "What is this?"
Waiter: "Mr. McGuire, that is a cull lobster. Sometimes when the lobsters are in the tank, they fight. This one lost a claw."
Al McGuire: "Well then take this one away and bring me the winner."

That is almost irrelevant in regard to Toronto, though. I think Toronto, and possibly McGill as an extension, are intriguing targets for the B1G, at least. These would be project adds, not get in now adds. It's a different culture for university sports in Canada (for the record, I have a Canadian degree, too), and laws limit athletic scholarships. Adding them is about finding a good partner in a good market and setting about transitioning them to DI level athletics. That could involve considerable red tape and likely take a lot of money to convince them to do so.

I don't see how the Big East could even try this with Toronto, but the B1G has the resources and draw to possibly make Toronto look at the switch.

If that's at me, I only called it intriguing for the B1G, not something they should do. Look at AAU schools in the direction the B1G is expanding (East) with new, large markets, and the Canadian schools kind of stick out. It would be really out of the box, manufacturing partners where you want them.

There were rumors the B1G looked at Toronto a few years back, though who knows if true. There already is one Canadian school in the NCAA, though in the lower divisions. There is some slight precedence.

I used to go to "The Dinette Set" for my highlight humor of the day. Now, I have decided simply to bookmark this thread (beginning with the Toronto suggestion) and get a bigger belly laugh than ever! You guys should charge admission for this funny stuff! It'll never get old.

Also, I never want UC (Cincy) to be invited to join the Big 12. Let them tender invitations to BYU and Memphis, but keep Cincy out of the talks. As an XU fan, it's been he|| for all but the last two years being dubbed the Bearcats' red-headed step-brother. They maintained this stance even during the last decades during which time the Muskies have dominated them on the court. Now WE are in the dominant Conference and I want it to remain that way. It's easier to do so as long as UC is mired in the AAAAAAAAAAC.

You know, outlets like ESPN have discussed the possibility of the B1G adding Toronto. It's an interesting idea even if you don't think it would ultimately work. That doesn't mean it suddenly makes sense, but the idea isn't new.

Yes that was for you , but not in a bad way. The idea is unique and is really thinking outside the box. Toronto is a huge market and there haved been many more kids coming out of Canada, but I just don't know if the time is now.
