Couple of things with the Big East:
Duke is crazy talk.
Wichita State will never get invited.

Goddamit gtmo. My post was meant purely to be satire. Don't take it seriously. The likelihood of a founding member of the ACC coming to us is about as likely as a founding member of the ACC going to the B10. ;)

But seriously. I was kidding. Don't quote me on Duke rumors any more.

I still have no idea why UNC is allowed to still have an athletics department.

I agree on Dayton and SLU not moving the needle but given the choice of Wake Forest or VCU, I'd take Wake in a nanosecond. Wake Forest, in a lot of ways, is very similar to many of the current BigEast schools. The estimated cost to attend Wake Forest is almost identicial to the estimated cost to attend Villanova. I thought Wake was about the same size a Villanova but looking at Wikipedia, it is about 2/3 as big but they do have $1B endowment!

Last year TR paid was $20.8 million (14 Full members, excludes ND), and includes their new TV deal. With 16 current members that pot is shrinking. Furthermore the ACC will find itself shut out of the FBS playoff, most if not all years. Duke is an anomaly- a shall group of elitist pricks-in a landscape of hillbillies, hicks, hayseeds, and bumpkins. They belong in a league of fellow elitist pricks- the BE or the Ivy.

Do you have an issue with North Carolina or the south in general?

A renegotiation with Fox on a 12-team league (UConn and Duke), along with a new Multimedia Rights deal puts the Big East per member revenues in that $15-18 million range. New accessions can do what Syracuse did and make deals to keep favorite rivalry H&Hs alive. Duke And UConn can park their football wherever, All other Sports in the BE.

I cannot see Duke ever leaving the ACC. The only thing I could imagine that might change that would be if UNC were to get the death penalty (unlikely) or their football team returning to the levels of incompetence they showed prior hiring their current coach (David Cutliffe) and they decided football simply isn't worth the hassle. Even then I could see the ACC letting Duke have some sort of Notre Dame deal to keep the rest of their sports in the ACC.

I can see UConn becoming available at some point and possibly Wake Forest but I don't see anyway Duke ever leaves the ACC unless the ACC falls apart. Even if that happened, I susepct the B1G would be drooling at the prospect of picking up Duke.

Duke may fit our profile but as you well know this is one of the most unlikely events to occur since the middle ages. However nearby Duke in Tobacco Road lies Wake Forrest. The president of that fine institution has already stated that his school will not be able to pay the full cost of tuition and other benefits which the P5 has forced upon college sports. He is the first P5 president to reject these changes outright. Perhaps we should look to wake as a member, along with UCONN of course.

I am not fully up to speed on the "full cost of attendance" concept nor how it is proposed to work. Does this mean that a school like Wake Forest where the estimated cost of attendance is $62k will have 3x the supplemental costs to their athletes than NC State would where the estimated cost of attendance is $22k? If that is the case, the private schools could really be at a financial disadvantage with respect to their conference peers.

Gtmo is not just infamous in Bluejay land, he is the only "famous" poster, as one of the few, the proud, the "mentioned in the Omaha World-Herald" bloggers. Completely batshit crazy but he was the only Jay to predict a victory in Stinkin' Lincoln on Sunday so let him have his week. In other words, ignore temporarily, mostly forgive. AMDG. Men for others and such.

UNC beat us three years ago in the tournament. Their inbred fans are still sending our players death threats for "ruining" their chances of a NC because one of their star players broke his wrist on a hard foul from Wragge. It's also the same game where the Gibbs wink came from after he drew a technical.

So yeah, Creighton really hates UNC. The feeling is pretty mutual.

My understanding is that FCOA is exactly what it implies. I read a post in September on a SEC board in which it was reported that the full cost will raise the cost per student at that school by $10,250. Considering that they have 300 men and women on sports scholarship this is an additional 3 million for FCOA only.

After this of course is the additional costs to bring the families of recruits to campus and to bowl games and basketball tournaments which is not part of FCOA but will be adopted by the P5. There may be additional costs but I am unaware of what they may be. The main thing is these are not for football and basketball players alone but also for those who participate in non income generating sports and of course apply to both men and women. I do not believe the later are in any way mandatory however the P5 schools apparently will adopt them and so if we want to keep up and compete for the best recruits we will be required to offer similar benefits. Of course we in the Big East have an advantage of sorts in that not having 85 football scholarships and the matching 85 women's scholarships means we will expend much less. It will still require a significant increase in the sports budget by our schools.

having just experienced pricing a top 30 school in USA $60,000+ versus a top midwest liberal arts school and an instate university (3 finalist my kid considered) I wouldn't draw the same conclusion you outline. First we were accepted at all 3 and of course the most selective and $$$ is where my wife and daughter had their hearts set on. Discussing the finances with school officials at choice#1 I concluded their would be no financial (merit) offered while choice 2 & 3 offered very nice package. In the end the $$$ school told me they can charge just about whatever they want and get it because they have that kind of demand, so in large part at Wake and NC State it's not about cost but about what they can extract from the wallets of interested students. Wake can charge considerably more than NC State but it's not going to cost them XXX amount more for NC State to pay for scholarship athletes, they'll just subsidize athletes pay with increase in tuition & atheletic revenue.
