Blue Demons are 6-1 for the first time since 1993... the days of Tommy Kleinschmidt, Brandon Cole, and Joey Meyer. Five players finished in double figures for DePaul, led by Billy Garrett's 18 points.
Serious question: we have a long way to go, but what is the feeling among the fans about Purnell's future?
If the season ended right now Purnell would be retained. Going into the season I know I wanted Purnell gone at the end of last season. I've tried to remain positive throughout the off-season and leading up to the Lehigh game, but lost that positive outlook and surprisingly I'm slowly gaining it back after the last 4 games. The ball movement is MUCH improved and it's clear watching that DePaul is not playing the one-on-one game as much as they have over the last 7 years. Definite change in that approach and defensively they've been more active keeping their hands and clogging the passing lanes a bit more. Has Purnell finally found the right chemistry and enough talent? I don't know yet, but they are far more fun to watch. ALOT will be known over the next 3 weeks. Two of next three on the road peppered with a tough home game and then the tourney in Hawaii. I don't like Purnell all that much for what he's delivered over four years, but if he can keep winning he'll obviously stick around. Not sure he stays if they finish under 500 this year. One game at a time
