As a BU fan, I'm a bit amused by all of the comments I've read that seem to be surprised/shocked/confused by Butler's performance this week... I get the surprise with the UNC win; I can't imagine even the staunchest of Butler fans would say that they expected a win in that game - but more so the win against Georgetown. My question for those of you that may fit in this category (other than X fans who are bred to hate Butler, and question any success regardless of how obvious it may be that the program may have), is did you really think that Butler had fallen so far that they were going to accept the failure that came with last years extremely unlucky season? Believe that the program was destined to be a doormat? There are plenty of comments from very outspoken "fans" of our own program that may have have shaped your own opinion - but let me say that there are a certain number of those fans that almost inexplicably want to see the program fail in order to meet their own vision for what the program should be.
And for those of you who don't yet want to read too much into the results, I would agree with you; but pay close attention to what defense and hustle reaped, as the two are hallmarks of the inner core of Butler basketball and possibly the primary reason for much of the success that the program has enjoyed over the past 15+ years or so.
Regardless, this week is what most Butler fan's have come to expect; and with the exception of the element of surprise, hope to see moving forward from this proud program.
Doormat it will not be, I can promise you that!
And X fans - I second the comment I saw in a post this week saying that its a little early in your own BE existence to be deciding who does and does not "belong" in the BE... hopefully UTEP brought that pride down to this atmosphere, for the sake of us all - if not for the sake of the league RPI.
