The suits at ESPN must be going nuts. Despite their repeated attempts, the Big East is alive, well, and thriving - without them. They drove the massive realignment craze in 2011, when the original Big East turned down their TV deal. They tried driving a stake through the heart of the conference by encouraging Syracuse and Pittsburgh to bolt to the ACC (and West Virginia to the Big 12). They tried putting one in the back of our head by getting Notre Dame, Louisville and Rutgers to flee with them in 2012. Upset that they no longer had the rights to the conference, they tried to add insult to injury, claiming the 2012 Big East Tournament was the "last Big East Tournament", and that the conference was "dead and gone".
With Butler's win over ESPN's favorite child (UNC), today showed that the Big East is alive and well - and that they can't do anything else to bring the conference down.
Big East: 37-2 (.949%)
ACC: 53-17 (.757%)
