I think most fans in the Big East are rooting for each other and will continue to do so. I loved watching the Butler win today. In the past I probably wouldn't have watched Butler play.

My parents went to Nova back in the early '70s, and they talk of the Big 5 in those days in the same way. Back then, Big 5 games were held as double headers in the Palestra; first game was Big 5 vs. Big 5, and second game was Big 5 vs. someone else. The fans of the Big 5 teams hated each other...but then they would all turn on whatever poor team showed up as the opponent in the second game in a show of Philly solidarity. It still shows; I choked down my pride when I was in school to cheer for St. Joes when they had their run in the early 2000's, and the entire city was behind LaSalle when they made their run.

I think we have some of that same attitude now with the Big East. We all realize it's us against the world: if this conference fails, we all fail.

I'm still surprised the Big East didn't add Saint Louis University, a school that has had a rivalry with two current Big East schools (DePaul and Marquette). The Billikens just don't fit in with a conference called the Atlantic 10, especially are they are west of the Mississippi River.
