Why can't we stick to the thread topic?
Admin, can you lock this thread or even delete it.

Tonight IB was at MSG watching the team practice. This has to be a good sign because he could have easily missed it since he was just on campus for the tip off and toured MSG already. The fact that he came back for a practice is convincing. Also regarding the quotes of him and his father it seems like he wants to stay home. He wants immediate playing time and to be close to home. SJ is the only school out of the final 3 (UConn, UK, SJ) that can offer both. It was also interesting that IB mentioned the NY media. If media hype is important to him then it's not even close that SJ should be his choice. With Lavin as coach and him coming to NYC you wouldn't hear the end of it. He'd get his name out there for sure. Lots of fans even SJ fans have been lamenting that MSG and the draw of NYC is not drawing kids anymore. I think that's BS. Almost every big time recruit who comes here raves about the huge stage, MSG, and the hype machine known as NYC. If we were in Minnesota somewhere we'd be screwed. MSG and NYC are huge recruiting ploys for us. Now if we can just find a way to start getting ranked consistently again they'd commit much earlier.

Did he officially trim his list to 3 or is that just your opinion? I read that he's planning to trim to 3 soon, but haven't seen a report that it's done yet. Also, I'm not sure SJ actually does get him more media hype. The Johnnies are frequently overshadowed in the NYC media by all of the pro sports action, while UConn and UK basketball are both the only show in town. Plus UConn gets its share of attention from the NYC media too (for example that big SNY deal they have).
I do agree though that if the most important things to him are staying close to home and getting a lot of playing time, there's only 1 choice (I guess actually 2 if Rutgers is in any way still being considered- but I doubt I).
SJHooper wrote:IB is not going to Seton Hall or Rutgers. Absolutely no smoke there. The only smoke is from UK, UConn, and SJ. So yes opinion, but informed opinion. If he goes to SHU he'd have to share time with IW who is "the guy" there. Not happening. Unless IW becomes 1 and done which is not easy. He's not going to Rutgers because, well…Rutgers is Rutgers. SJ is the only place that can offer a huge media platform, MSG, close to home, small class size, and be the man all at the same time.
At UK he is not the guy and will sit behind Ulis. He would be just another face in the crowd. At UConn he is far from home. At Mizzou he is very far from home. At UK he is very far from home. Like I said, if he wants to stay home he is coming here. He seems to have a very involved family and that goes in our favor IMO.
I hope he just commits asap because getting him will lead to a domino effect of other top recruits coming here knowing he will be headed here. But again I would not be shocked if UK or UConn did something desperate at the last second to get him.
And by the way, the only reason UConn and UK get lots of media coverage is because…they are really good. If SJ was as good as them they'd get 10x the press. When this team is good everyone and their kids will know it. In 2011 when the team was in the top 15 and experts said an Elite 8 appearance was likely, SJ was all over ESPN, SNY, the papers, sports shows, etc. UK and UConn are in the middle of the sticks. St. John's is in the capital of the world. SJ still gets lots of press even when mediocre, but if they are ever legitimately great they will be all over the headlines.
