Most Disliked/Annoying/Hated Opponent?

With basketball season just around the corner, I am curious as to who everyone's disliked/annoying/hated schools are?

Disliked: Wisconsin. Natural rivalry with the Badgers. Reading up on the Badger boards yesterday (after Wisconsin-native Henry Ellenson committed to Marquette), you get comments like "We didn't get Ellenson because Bo Ryan cooled on him" or "Clearly he isn't as good as advertised because Bo wasn't in on him". It is a fun rivalry we have with them every year. When Marquette defeats Wisconsin, it's not only good to beat a heated rival, but you also get to beat a team from the B1G as well (which is always good in my book).

Annoying: Dayton. Marquette and Dayton clearly have "something" going on. Rumor was that it was Marquette that blackballed Dayton from an invitation to the Big East (with Xavier's help). I believe, and I have no inside knowledge on this, there was a last minute cancellation of a game by Dayton a few years ago that Marquette still has hurt feelings over. It doesn't help that Dayton beat Marquette just a few seasons ago as well. A majority of Dayton fans love to bring up the wins and a perceived lack of respect from Marquette. Personally, I love their basketball tradition and school, but their fans can get out of hand sometimes.

Hated: The American-6. East Carolina. Tulane. SMU. Houston. UCF. Memphis. Back when the old-Big East was looking to expand (and when the conference was headed toward a football-only focus), numerous fans of these schools on the CSNbbs boards would attack the Catholic-7 and the New Big East (and still do) for "wronging" their schools and "holding them back" during previous incarnations of realignment. It's because of them that their football and basketball programs have not reached the "big time" and it was time they got "reparations" for their "troubles". The absurdity and entitlement that some of these schools' fans had was mind-blowing. They felt the owned the Big East name, Madison Square Garden and the whole pot of exit money from fleeing teams, despite never playing under the Big East name for even a day. If you go over to their boards today, ECU fans still hijack every conversation about a possible invite to the ACC or SEC or their deserved Access Bowl spot. Unreal.

Butler, these are mine personally, I think where you put some of these teams categorically depend on the personal feelings of each fan.

Disliked - Indiana - I've got plenty of friends who are IU fans which is why I don't hate the Hoosiers, but their fans have always looked down their noses at Butler. Won't ever play at Hinkle, pointing up at their NCAA banners that are getting further and further from relevance every year, etc. Florida's also in this category because of the two heartbreaking losses the Bulldogs suffered to them in the NCAA tournament in 2000 and 2007. Thankfully Butler got them back in 2011. Xavier's probably in here too, but I personally don't mind them, at least not the last few years.

Annoying - Valpo, Ball State, Evansville, Indiana State - It's really just annoying to listen to them spout how Butler ran off scared to greener pastures. I guess this may be how IU feels about playing at Hinkle, but they (Evansville and Ball State mostly) wouldn't adjust the series to be a 2 for 1 deal, because "Butler's not a high major program". Overall most of their fans are nice, but seem to resent Butler cashing in on the Final 4 runs and a lot of years of success at the lower levels.

Hated - Honestly I don't really hate any team, but if I had to put one in here it'd be Notre Dame. Maybe it's because I live in South Bend and have to hear some of the self-righteous alumni on a regular basis. Maybe it's because Digger Phelps once tried to cut in front our entire flight in the security line at the airport (a flight he was on) because "I'm on GameDay". Most likely it's because they have the same attitude towards Butler that IU does, but really has no reason to do so. I really shouldn't hate them though. After all, they have let Butler win the last 6 times they've played.

I am originally from the South Bend area and would have to concur on Digger.

Disliked: Indiana just because I cant stand Tom Crean

Annoying: Dayton - no explanation necessary

Hated: Cincinnati - no explanation necessary

DePaul fan here... this is a tuff topic to respond to coming from a program that is basically irrelevant but I thought it was interesting.

Disliked - Notre Dame for all the obvious reasons. Fans/alumni are the most annoying self-righteous people in sports. To hear the "let's go irish" chant literally makes my skin crawl at home games.

Annoying - Marquette primarily because they are everything DePaul should be and more. This was once a strong rivalry but has been decimated by the lack of intelligence in our AD and administration.

Hated - Illinois they are worse than Notre Dame fans and refuse to play us even at the United Center (haven't played them in over 50 years). Like Marquette and Wisky, DePaul would be a much stronger program if we had the in state rival from the B10.

Cincinnati obviously takes first place in all 3 categories.

Butler fans probably won't take this too well, but I really think they are becoming the Dayton of the league.

I would welcome going 9-9 in the league at this point. Granted, I wasn't around Dayton-X, but I got the impression that Dayton fans always thought they would be awesome, then might tease their fans a little by doing well in the non-conference before inevitably ending up around a .500 mark in the A-10 and going to the NIT.

Is it because we have a non-scholarship football team that plays in the PFL? I guess I'll need some clarification on your comment before I can decide whether or not to be offended. At this point it seems like something to strive for.

Nova

Disliked: Pitt (style of play; not a JDixon fan)
Annoying: Temple (have always thought they were more deserving of being in the BE than Nova and yet ripped it along the way asnoverrated)
Hated: st Joe's. Nothing good about that school. They actually hang a banner that says Perfect Season" even though they had 2 losses.
Go Nova!
