I've been trying to read up on Chris Holtmann. Seems like a talented guy. Worked under John Groce at Ohio U, then took Gardner-Webb head coach job. At G-Webb, a terrible program, he turned the team around in 3 years, winning 21 games. Recognized as a great recruiter and a great defensive coach. Gardner Webb beat DePaul in the 2013 season.

Butler has some good talent this year. Depth is an issue maybe. While Berry has transferred, I'm not sure that he had a Big East build. Chrabascz is great, Woods owns the glass, Dunham and Barlow are a talented backcourt. R Jones returns. Remember, going into the BE regular season last NYE, Butler was considered to be a possible NCAA team. They lost a ton of OT games, and games under 10 points. They now have BE experience. I guess I'm not as down on Butler as others.

I'm not down on them given their current roster, as you pointed out.

I hope for Brandon Miller and his family's sake that he is okay and can move on the way he wants.

No program needs to experience issues with its head coach, but the timing seems particularly bad for Butler. It can't be good if it is true that Brandon Miller spent a significant amount of time off the recruiting trail during this past summer.

We will see soon enough how the interim head coach handles the season and how things develop for that program moving forward.

Butler with their poor OOC schedule would have needed likely 11 conference wins to get in.

The post is a Q&A today with Butler Insider Michael Pointer. No new news on Miller, but some further insight by someone close to the Butler scene. And Xudash, I know you are concerned, but both committed 2015 recruits have stated they will sign the LOI on November 1.

pretty much reading the article- sounds very close to what Goodman reported. Going to 2 events in the summer is a drip in the bucket quite frankly.

Guy says he thinks Miller has coached his final game.

great both 2015 recruits will stay- but Butler is the program in most need of a talent upgrade. from the sounds of things- those 2 guys aren't that. That's where it's a killer.

I think ranking recruits and classes is fairly useless, but this site has Butler's two recruits ahead of Xavier, St. John's, and Seton Hall and pretty much tied with DePaul. So if you thing Butler's class ain't it, then the Big East is in trouble.

Just sayin'.

That link sends you to 2015. Seton Hall had a monster Top-10 class in 2014.

Xavier had a top 15 class last year and brought in 6 recruits. 2015 they have zero right now. I guess technically you are right, soooo congratulations on being tied with DePaul

Butler's 2015 class isn't done. My guess is it doesn't look too much more impressive than it does already (they have an official coming up on November 1st for 2015 SG Corey Johnson), but with 5 available scholarships and only 2 spoken for, my guess is there's a couple more additions still coming, whether by freshman or another transfer.

Also, not every program in the conference can be a world beater out on the recruiting trail and on the court. It'd be nice if we all could, but the world needs ditch diggers too. That could change for Butler in the near term if some of the rumors about a potential assistant coach hiring are true, but that remains to be seen. In the meantime, their best hope for success is that the kids that they currently have can develop into something really good by the time they're seniors, but in a league like this, that tends to be difficult when most other teams are pulling in the kind of classes that they are.

But without looking at each team's entire roster to see the whole picture of their recruits, simply analyzing one class by itself doesn't really show the reasons why that might be occurring.

This is what worries me from a Butler standpoint. I don't know much about McDermott and I really don't have any expectations at all for Fowler. The bigger issue is that the pipeline seems entirely empty (minus Corey Johnson, who I also know nothing about). I would assume it is only going to be more difficult to recruit with a coaching situation in flux.

It probably won't sit well with Butler faithful but I honestly think Butler needs a little bit of a "culture change" (not sure if that's the right phrase to use) when it comes to recruiting. And FWIW, I thought that before the Miller LoA.
