From Twitter
The Big 12 is excited about idea of being the only major conference with a presence in Texas, Ohio & Florida. Networks love this as well.

Locks are Cinci & UCF......lots of conversation regarding UConn, ECU, USF, Memphis.....you can forget BYU & Boise St.

Big battle between Big 12 schools is taking conf to 12 or 14. TV entities will keep per team $ the same regardless.

Told by an athletics guy in Austin & an East Coast media/website guy that realignment is about to start popping again.

Hearing new regime at Texas coming to terms with B12 adding 4 teams: UCF, Cinci, UConn and.......East Carolina. No kidding, East Carolina.

Note: I believe the AD, Coach and President are new (within 1 year) at U of Texas. Also Governor Perry has finally appointed sufficient members of their board of regents to have a 2/3 majority on the board. Robin

Remember this information comes from twitter not the Bible. To be taken with several thousand grains of salt.

If your information is correct, and I have no reason to believe it is, who do we pick up? Memphis and Temple?

I understand UConn has football aspirations, but even people with dreams eventually get hit hard by a thing called reality. Kids dream of becoming astronauts and eventually realize it's a lot harder than they thought. Then they end up in a cubicle sitting through a regular 9-5. UConn has to be losing a lot of money. They got all these facilities, they have terrible attendance, and they suck. They were just recently named a bottom 10 team in college football. So if they keep losing games and thus losing money, and there continues to be no invite to the P5 and the doors appear to be finally closed for good with them locked in a closet with Tulane and Tulsa, I just think there is no way they don't at least talk to us.

I was going through the UConn boards and the general consensus is that the fans are demoralized by being stuck in the AAC. One UConn fan even joked they were still in denial they were in such a bad conference. They are clearly looking to get out of the AAC. If the P5 really won't let them in, they are coming here.

And you have to remember: Temple was terrible last year, Louisville is gone, and they just inherited dog crap in Tulane and Tulsa. So they lost a blue blood program, had one of the banner schools fall flat on their face, and added two pathetic programs to further hurt their RPI. SMU was a pleasant surprise for them, but any and all success is obviously only because Larry Brown is there and he can croak any day now at his age so you know it's nothing long-term. The AAC is getting much worse and UConn looks around saying what the hell happened. No way in hell they stay put for long there. If their football is still this bad and the P5 is set, expect them to be here within 5 years. It's actually amazing that such a top notch program has been locked out of the big boys club. There are still some big boys here who are not in the P5 though and place a heavy emphasis on basketball, UConn's nationally known and insanely successful program. And guess what? They are in a Big East location. And guess what? They have plenty of rivalries here. And they would play at MSG again. This really is too perfect…they need to realize that football is the monkey wrench but it doesn't have to be. Really not sure why they can't just be independent, downgrade, or demolish it completely. People say "all that money was invested though". Yeah, I know…so guess what? Re-invest all that football money into your hoops programs. Problem solved.

It doesn't make sense for UConn to stay put financially, or logically. They will be gone soon. The question is will a P5 conference take them? I think that's what it comes down to. If they are done with realignment then what else can they possibly do? No way you stay with those bum schools in the AAC. They would come to us.

This Daily News article from April pretty much sums up the UConn-to the Big East case perfectly.

I actually agree with most of what was written as far as UConn goes. They should want their basketball to be the in the Big East. The obvious (unanswered) questions are whether the Big East wants a public school or a football school? I think they could get past the public/private thing and add someone like VCU to go to 12, but UConn doesn't seem to have a place for football and it's hard to imagine them dropping the sport of finding a landing place.

The fact that uconn is public is irrelevant so too is the fact that it plays football provided it pledges its media rights. It should be admitted under no other circumstances.

Independent? If I were UConn, I'd join the Big East, go independent in football if the MAC didn't want us, then have all other sports in the Big East. You can decide what to do regarding football later. See how they do as an independent or in the MAC. If they still suck over and over then maybe end the experiment eventually. If they do well all of a sudden, a P5 conference will take them and they leave the Big East.

I don't think it's as complicated as people make it seem.

Irrelevant to who? Certainly not to the school presidents making the decision.

Irrelevant to the basketball analysis. Uconn was part of the conference for 30 years and was a good partner.
