UConn isnt coming back. that ship has sailed. they arent going to downgrade FB. If anything they will pump in more cash so that when one of the P5 goes searching, UConn stands out as the obvious choice

IF this is true it will almost certainly destroy the AAC and perhaps free up UConn and Temple to join the Big East. Although I suspect Villanova will do everything possible to veto Temple the addition of UConn to the BE would be a major achievement. Internet rumors concerning Louisville, Pitt and Syracuse have proven accurate however for every accurate rumor there are 66999 which are false. None the less I like this rumor as UConn would be a significant addition to our conference.

In other threads I have pleaded to hold our membership to 10. However if UConn and Temple are available the situation changes dramatically.

The one downside is that the B12 is televised by ESPN and Fox. Putting and increased number of B12 basketball games on Fox and FS1 might reduce the amount of BE games on the network. However this is speculation not unlike the expansion rumors themselves.

The rumors seem to have been initiated by a Tuxedo Yoda on his twitter account and several others have followed suit.

I suspect we will find out within a few months if this is accurate or the rumors may just continue for another 10 years.

Hahahaaaa this is funny. Adding Yukon is a big negative to our league, let them have their Football and rot in the AAC.

Yeah adding arguably the best team in college basketball the past 15 years is a negative says the SJU fan? Tell me what has sju done this century to help our league? UConn has more NCAA championships in 15 years than our entire league has ever. I'm sorry but Uconn would be huge and of the schools who are in a position to remotely insult UConn as if they are nothing SJU ain't one of them.

See, now THIS chit leads to trouble! Why insult an entire group because of one knucklehead?

Also we can insult UConn because we are actual rivals with them. We've been playing them every year (except last year) for over 30 years. Even when they were winning national titles we'd still beat them. (at least their last title in the BE)

These conf rumors suck. But I, for one, would love UCONN to find a way back to the BE. We had some great battles over the years. Rudy Gay vs Randy Foye, Kerry Kittles vs Ray Allen, I remember vividly when Scottie Reynolds put 30 up on them in Storrs as a Frosh. Even went up there for a game when I was an undergrad and was fortunate enough to have my way with a Lady Husky. Good times, good times. I hated Calhoun but I like Ollie and I respect the UCONN hoops tradition. GREAT program. Remember that we actually bolted from them... Sure FB was/is their Circe' but their BB would improve our profile.

UConn is the belle of the ball. We would be stupid to not try and get them.

The Big East doesn't need an FBS football school in the ranks. We are done with that. Would love to have UConn in the league, but it can't and won't happen so long as they are an FBS football school. And no Temple - Villanova is our Philly school. We don't need two.

Big 12 men's basketball is not on FS1, just women's. Big 12 football is.

Guys, if this happens then UConn will REALLY be screwed. Guess who can throw them a big fat life preserver? Us. Who the hell would they play in basketball if all those schools leave? People keep saying we won't let in a football school. Of course we will…as long as it gets parked in the MAC which is looking more and more like their only realistic option moving forward to keep their basketball at a high level. UConn is a natural fit and there have been some memorable games with them in the conference. UConn vs. SJ would be close to a sell out at the Garden. So many alumni and very local. Who the hell wouldn't want to add arguably the best team in college hoops the past few decades? IMO adding UConn back would force experts to always refer to us as major. UConn, G'Town, Nova, Marquette, SJ, PC, CU, etc. etc. is one hell of a conference. I think we are still missing one or two big names after we lost so many to the ACC/Big 12.

NJRedman wrote:Okay just for the record UCF is way more appealing to the Big XII than Memphis or Temple. They are the biggest school in FBS, they are in a recruiting hot bed of Florida, they have an on campus stadium that can easily be expanded and they have actually accomplished things at the FBS level, unlike it's directional counterpart in Tampa. UCF is definitely one of the more likely call ups to the P5 if and when that ever happens.

My order for call ups to the P5 is as follows:

1. BYU
2. Cincy
3. UCF
4. Nevada
5. UConn
6. Memphis
7. CSU
8. Navy
9. Houston
10. USF

On top of all of that, no way in hell UConn drops football. Schools don't move down. Even those weak ass Sun Belt schools don't move down. All of those FCS schools are trying to MOVE UP! No way no how UConn ends up in the Big East. I wish they would but it's never gonna happen. They've made their decision and now they are stuck with it for better or worse.

I see what you're saying, but if UCF, USF, ECU, and Cincy leave, then the rest of the American may get raided…they wouldn't have many schools left. UConn may face a unique situation where they are literally left out in the cold and they are forced to downgrade football or move it to the MAC. If none of the P5 schools want UConn, and the Big 12 takes the aforementioned teams, all they have left is basically Tulane, Tulsa, Memphis, Houston, Temple, SMU. Is that even big enough to keep a conference? And if they did, their RPI would be god awful. I don't think UConn to the Big East with their football in the MAC is nearly as crazy as people make it seem. They would get the Garden back for their alumni, they would renew old rivalries with SJ, G'Town, Nova, etc. and they would be right at home again. They could just deal with what they do best: hoops and get over the headache their football causes.

If UConn is stuck with Tulane, Tulsa, Memphis, Houston, Temple, and SMU I just can't see them staying. The football would be so bad how would they even make money from it? I heard from many people that most football teams LOSE money unless you are Ohio State or Notre Dame and the like. So if they keep losing money, and continue to rot with those losers, I can't see them sitting still. You would have to think the Big East with UConn and maybe Memphis would bring a lot more TV money in a deal. Eventually, UConn will either be in the Big East for hoops or in the P5 with their awful football team. The American is their place holder until they can upgrade.

Yeah, thanks MUBoxer for telling me how good uconn is. It is not about that though. When the old B.E. was down and everyone was leaving, did Yukon care about us? NO, infact they went knocking on the ACC's door not once but twice.
So now if this expansion happens to the AAC, then Yukon would be in deep trouble. Oh but then the new B.E comes to save their asses, and they'll say yeah sure they'll join.
Then leave when a P5 conference come calling.

I guess everyone here doesn't mind being used by them.

They also sucked up to the Big 12 and the B1G-they have no reason to be pissed at the Big East. Check out Theboneyard.com -they have a section on conference realignment that's been going strong for a long time. They would be smart to dump fb or the very least drop down to a lower level, but they insist on trying to be big time.
