Shoe and Apparel Contracts

Postby HoosierPal » Tue Sep 23, 2014 3:58 pm

Does anyone know the value of your school's shoe and apparel contract? I know that Butler is with Nike for both, and that the coach gets a slice of the pie, but I'm not sure what the Athletic Department gets, if anything. And I have no idea about the details or value of the contract. Brad Steven's tax returns were published while he was still at Butler and I remember he was getting compensation tied to Nike. Not sure if it was direct or indirect through the Athletic Department.

I was reading where a recruit de-committed from Louisville after he learned that they had a shoe contract with Adidas. Apparently his AAU team is Nike sponsored. Strange, but it looks like the shoes you wear may be a recruiting factor.

Nike was the most boring supplier ever. No experimentation, no vision, nothing exclusive looking. The best day ever was when UA came to Queens! We actually got legit-looking jerseys and tons of new designs custom made for us.

Nike is the best in the business. They do experiment with their brand name teams that are worth experimenting and making exclusive looking things for. Look at Oregon.

Georgetown is technically Air Jordan which is just a division of Nike. The main Air Jordan Schools are UNC, Georgetown, Marquette, and Cal.

There's a reason why Nike is number one in sales and profit.

Obviously if you are G'Town, Cuse, etc. you will get your share of cool designs and fan gear. But over at SJU they just gave us the same crap and it looked so outdated. We literally just had racing stripes. What is it the 80's? We go to UA and become one of their higher brand name schools and they throw in a skyline design, a throwback 1985 design, and come out with really cool stuff for fans to wear like the king of NY shirt and the big apple shirt.

You love Nike because Nike loved you back. With us and Nike they just forgot about us. The UA also has better quality replica jerseys. I have a Nike one and a UA one. The Nike one is just screen printed…the UA one actually has the team name and number worked into the fabric…it's not a raised screen print. Thought that was cool. We may still go back to Nike one day who knows?

Speaking of apparel, here's Mike Francesa (SJ alumni) in a new SJ sweatshirt. We seem to have a lot of exclusive shirts and sweatshirts for players and big time alumni that sadly us regular fans do not have the opportunity to purchase. They would sell a ton of these if they went on sale in the bookstore. Why they hide this stuff from the fans? I will never know! But awesome anyway.
