Come selection Sunday, St John's had 0 chance of getting selected. But even if you give St John's that- that's the only time last 13 years they were even close to being in the discussion. The other years they were 16-13 16-15 17-15 and 16-15. None of those records now have any shot of getting selected.

Bottom line- there shouldn't be a period where St Johns is so mediocre. And, St John's has been nothing but mediocre for a long time now.

But let's go last 10 since you want to go to a nice round number...
St John's 5 losing years, 3 others with 1 win over .500, 1 NCAA spot, 1 even close to the bubble.
Seton Hall 4 losing years, 1 .500 season, 1 NCAA spot, 2 others with at least 19 wins.

To act like St John's is this special program right now- it just isn't. And that's the biggest problem with the Big East right now. St John's needs to be special, something they just aren't right now. Since Carnesecca left St John's, they've been to the NCAA tourney 6 times and won 5 games. That's in 22 years now. It's pretty darn easy to play down SJU right now because well in the last 22 years- they haven't been special. They just haven't.

I don't have the energy to argue with you today, but...
- St John's in 2014 was a bubble team til the BET.
- St John's in 2013 was "in" til late Feb when Harrison got suspended.
- St John's in 2012 easily made the NCAA's.
- St John's and Seton Hall are recognized by everyone as the top 2 programs in metro NY.
- Louisiana State football lost at home to Mississippi State last night, a devastating loss that has ended their season... go cry with your buddies on your fanboard over there.

St John's in 2013 was 16-11 when he got suspended. A team with that record is hardly "in" at that point. Maybe one of those last 4 in but that's it... They would have had to get at least 2 wins out of the final 3 games of Providence, Notre Dame, and Marquette. But even that gets them to only 18-12 going into the BET, almost certainly needing a 3rd win there to get in- it's tough now to get in the tourney at 18-13.
St John's in 2012 finished 13-19 and lost 1st day of the BET.

Bottom line, if we're arguing about St John's if they were a bubble team or not a bubble team- something is seriously wrong with that picture. St John's should be a flagship program in the Big East, not a program where we're like are they a bubble team or not? St John's SHOULD be much better than Seton Hall. the fact that it's even close to being a debate is the issue.

I assumed that comment was cliche enough for people to get that it was a tounge in cheek reference. Guess not

Sorry hooper, I'll be sure to remember my place next time. Wouldn't want some bball cro-magnon to besmirch the sterling reputation of your fine institution by accident.

Frankly, they share the same Conference and play each other twice this coming season, once on each program's home floor. What happened last night or when "Little Louie" was coaching is immaterial. What happens when the two teams play each other in those two upcoming games will ultimately STILL NOT decide which is the better team because there are too damn many variables that come into play. One of the two of you could end the Conference schedule 2-12 while the other finishes 12-2, but because of the crosstown nature of your relationship and your long history of play against one another, the 2 lonely wins by the 2-12 team could be the only 2 Conferences losses of the other!

Having 100,000 full time students on 15 different campuses has nothing to do with making one school's 13 scholarship players form a team that is better than the team at a school with 13 other D-1 scholarship players performing for a college with only one dinky campus in a crappy part of town. To show how unreliable such things can be to compare one school's basketball team or program with another, I checked how the two teams fared against one another last year and how each fared against the team I support. The findings are as unreliable as one could possibly imagine:

St. John beat Seton Hall both home and away
Seton Hall Beat Xavier both home and away
Xavier beat St. John both home and away.

GO FREAKING FIGURE!!!

Yea but dude, St. John's primary color is red.

OOPS!!! I take it all back!

For the record, I voted for Providence. Do we need a run off?

Whoever wins the runoff will probably be voted 5th, anyway.
We could just call it a T-5 and not have to listen to the SJU and SHU fans go back and forth on the next thread.

I vote for this option. Even though I would've voted for Providence 5th and not voted St. John's until later.

Now this is funny. Who is 3rd? Fordham, Pace, American, Juilliard? Not much competition.

I think the best two baseball teams in metro NY are the Yankees and Mets.
