Is your college in a well educated city?

Since we still have several weeks until BB time allow me to ask the following question. Is your university located in a well educated city? How can I determine this you ask. Among the numerous rankings available on the font of all knowledge (internet, thank you Al Gore) is the following.

The following are BE conference cities. I have not listed South Orange as it is not really a city, more a village of about 15K population.

I am very surprised by the ranking of Philly at 77. There are several excellent colleges in that area including an Ivy League school. Providence has never been highly ranked on this type of list. I don't look upon it as a reflection upon Providence College as it has a small enrollment.

Make of the ranking what you will. It is something to do until there is really something to do.

Having lived in 3 of these cities: DC, then Providence, and now Philly I'm surprised Philly and Providence aren't higher, but I haven't looked at the link to see what their criteria was. Providence has like 8 colleges in the city including brown, and Philly has a tone of medical research going on and of course Penn which is a huge research university. Seems like there's tons of cultural stuff going on in both Providence and Philly too.

What about outsourcing UC to Columbus and bringing OSU to Cincy? Dash I will put you in charge of this project.

I was disappointed in the middling to pathetic ranking of all Ohio cities when you consider how many tax dollars are spent on and by our state university system. I would expect at least 1 city in the top 25 but alas it is not to be.

Ohio cities are ranked as follows:
Columbus 45
Cincinnati 62
Akron 91
Dayton 93
Cleveland 96
Canton 103
Toledo 112
Youngstown 127
Each one of these cities have at least one large state university and most have one relatively large state junior college or technical school as well.

Surprisingly the worst state seems to be California in regards to the well educated although San Jose and San Francisco are solid. 5 of the 10 worst cities in America are in California.

I have lived in NY, Providence, DC, and Cincinnati. My ranking of those four would be NY, Providence, DC, and Cincinnati in that order. DC is way over-rated in the published poll, while both NY and Providence are under-rated IMHO.

With the amount of top-50 cities in NC, SC, and TN, it reads more like a list of cities that eat the most Chick-Fil-A.

I've never been there, but South Orange, NJ is really close to NYC, very much in the greater metro area, right? That's not my idea of "village." I think more of a tiny hamlet in the Midwest that barely has a flashing stoplight or a small New England town.

You are correct as South Orange is only about 18 miles from Manhattan. However if you drive through it it seems like a village to me. I guess we all can have different concepts of what a village is. I am sure many residents of South Orange must work in NYC so perhaps it can be included as part of NYC. On the other hand it is also near to Camden if I remember correctly.
