Big East Coaching

Postby stever20 » Tue Sep 16, 2014 12:43 pm

Asked this on the countdown thread but figured it would spark some good conversation....

If you could have any coach in the Big East- outside your own coach- who would you want coaching your program...

I think for me it's got to be Ed Cooley 1st, then Jay Wright 2nd. Love the job Cooley is doing at PC. Love to see what everyone would say about this.....

Might I ask why you would want Mack second? Maybe I have just been spoiled by the previous X coaches: Miller, Matta and Prosser. But Mack made the Sweet 16's with Milllers players. Since then, he hasn't done much.

I'd take Cooley. Great recruiter and motivator and good X's and O's guy, and he's done a good job with a team on a smaller budget in the Big East.

I just like something about him. His teams are always tough, he always seems to be winning. 21+ wins in 4 of 5 years, 10+ conference wins 4/5 yrs, ncaas 4/5 years. and in 3 of those 4 years got a win in the tourney. And he doesn't do that by recruiting the 5* players. He does it by recruiting to his system and winning games that way. Always seems to have a couple good guards too and I've always favored the guards a little bit. Maybe he gets an edge for me over some of the other BE coaches like GTIII who I have had a chance to see head to head with more.

Are you not happy with Mack as the coach?

I think I would take McBuckets Sr. Guy seems to be able to flat out coach--at least vs. V'nova. He would just need a couple good young guys tied into the AAU scene, as assistant coaches, for recruiting. 2. Cooley 3.Wojo. I think he is going to be good for Marq. and (hopefully) will be around for a while.

Wouldn't trade JT3 for anyone, but would take Wright 2nd and Cooley 3rd.

Wright only other BE coach to reach the Final 4 and win a BE regular season title, Cooley the only other BE coach to win the BET.

JT3 only coach to win both a regular season and tournament championship in the BE.

I think we'll know a lot about McBuckets Sr this year.

Wojo will be real interesting to see. Like everything I've seen from him for now.

You know I thought long and hard about JTIII.... clearly an excellent coach. But that style of play would make me nuts watching it every night as a fan. That's the only reason I didn't pick him #1.
