I honestly don't even understand what this is supposed to mean. But Xavier is fifth. So cool...

From what I understood from the article, they are basically making a model of revenue as a function of team quality and market potential and then comparing it to the revenue data that the schools publish. So they are basically looking at how much revenue a team should make and comparing it to the revenue data the teams said they made. Seems kind of fishy to me personally (especially since schools tend to skew those numbers) but I do like how the model is suppose to look at support based off of team quality. The statisticians that wrote this are trying to make the point that any team could sell out a 16,000 seat area if they are winning 30 plus games a year but that you can get a better since of fan support based off of their fan equity rankings. Fan equity takes into account scenarios were the team may be performing badly or is playing in a smaller arena or is situated in a small market. All of these would have potential impact on fan support. Like I said this is a really weird way to look at fan support and seems fishy to me but it is still an interesting angle to consider.

As an XU fan I also am pleased by this ranking. The most important element is that Xavier is the ONLY school listed which is not part of the Power 5 conference structure and does not have major college football. Frankly the divide between major college football schools and conferences like the BE and other basketball conferences is immense and perhaps unbridgeable. The other conference schools break down in this fashion:
ACC - 5
Big10 - 3
PAC - 2
SEC - 2
Big12 - 2

I am not entirely sure I believe this ranking but since it was written by someone outside the BE I will go along with it until proven in error. All other BE schools may now bow down to the greatness that is the Muskies or at least the Muskie fans.

Please consider the previous sentence self serving in the extreme.

Is there anyway to see the entire ranking. I looked for a bit and couldn't find an entire list, just the top and bottom lists, but no full list. I'd like to see that.

SMH No idea why someone would feel compelled to do such a study. Can't wait to get to the bar and say "did you see our latest Fan Equity Ranking?"
