Stats breakdown

Another fun summer topic....

Ken Pom a few months ago added a history page for the conferences for the years he's got stats thru(2002 season 1st).

just looking at things....
first thing this year- the shooting was the best it's ever been. 2pt% was 49.2, highest it's ever been(2010 was close at 48.9). 3pt% was 35.7, also highest it's ever been(2006 was close at 35%). FT% as 71.5, also best ever. With that, our Efficiency rating was 106.8- best ever as well. One thing interesting was while these were our best ever, if you look at vs other conferences- it's not. For instance- Efficency we were 8th this year. 2010 we were 105.9 so 1 pt lower- but we were 2nd best.

other things- turnovers were the lowest they've ever been(at 17.2%). Part of that is steal rate. It was only 8.6% the lowest that's ever been(and 24th best this year).

Assist rate was 55.6% 2nd best in the country(despite being 2.2% lower than last year). 4th straight top 3 year.

Block rate was 9.3% this year. After being in the top 6 every year from 2002-13- we were #22 this year. Offensive rebounding the same thing- we were 22nd this year, after being top 9 every year from 2002-13. 1 year drop from #2 down to #22.

I wonder how much the new hand checking rules played into this increase? I bet most of the conferences saw an increase in offensive efficiency.

think it had some impact but not all of it. League became a bit more offensive this year than before no doubt. Much better shooting (3 pt shooting for instance went from being the WORST in the country up to 10th). 2 pt shooting from 27th up to 8th. Effective FG% which takes into account 3 pt shooting went up from 47.1% (29th) to 50.7%(7th). It'll be interesting to see with all of Creighton's good shooters gone now as well as a few others if the shooting can continue to be as good.
