I think the overall consensus is that that is the same chance the Big East expands, period.

It's not the same chance, there is zero chance UCONN or Memphis ever have any interest in the Big East and almost guaranteed 100% the Big East expands. For starters, UCONN and Memphis aren't giving up football and that's where it starts and ends. There will be no attractive scenario for them to join basketball only private schools in anything, to do so would admit defeat.

I could see a scenario where they would join. It would require a lot of dominos to fall, but it could happen. I'd rather wait and see how the dust settles before expanding.

Say we have another round of expansion and SMU and Cincinnati get added to the B12 or something like that. Suddenly the BE looks a lot more attractive than a line up of Houston, Temple, USF, UCF, ECU, Tulane, Tulsa for Uconn and Memphis, especially since they face the same problem of no good candidates to add. Heck they've already added bad additions in UCF, ECU, Tulane. They could easily put their football in the MAC and play everything else in the BE. Obviously that would be the ideal scenario, but maybe Uconn and Cincinnati get taken I'd still rather have SMU and Memphis, or any combination of: Uconn, Memphis, SMU, Houston. I'd be fine with Cinci or Temple too, but I can understand not doubling up markets and that Xavier and Nova would oppose. But I think taking any top 2 teams from the AAC is a million times better than adding Dayton or St. Louis. Not a likely scenario yet, but the point is no point in making a move to expand until viable candidates are in play.

I mean, sure they have FBS, but in no way do they have ambition nore the ability to become a D-1 football program. The only school that could actually make it work, and that there has been sooooome evidence of, is VCU (public).

Criterion 2 is clearly subjective, and you admit that. But I still hate trying to quantify "commitment" through "success". It is well known Dayton has been quite committed to basketball for decades, but that hasn't been reflected in success. So , to me, this is a false metric and essentially a copy of Criterion 5. A decade ago we'd all be talking about Southern Illinois.

I'm only responding to the "soooome evidence" of VCU raising a football program. There is no evidence of VCU starting a football program. I understand those fans of Big East schools having PTSD about public schools regarding football, but it would require VCU to raise hundreds of millions of dollars through private donors explicitly for a football program. There is no land in Richmond to be had, there is no support, and I reiterate that VCU was in a league with football (CAA) and did not develop even an FCS program.

There are a couple of posters who may want football, but I doubt they have 300 million between them. Use the "public" angle against VCU, and that's a valid reason. But VCU has no want, or need, to begin a football program - it has raised donors level to support a $25 Million practice facility solely for the basketball programs. It will be expanding the Seigel Center from the 7,600 to upwards of 9,000 seats. VCU is all in on basketball, and will be for at least the near-medium term.

Not that it looks like the Big East is expanding though.

You can ignore the posters or not open the threads. Just saying.

While not my cup of tea, I think a little discussion during the summer months isn't that much of a distraction considering we don't have a whole lot else to discuss.

I guess you weren't around yet when there was a 151 page thread on this very topic a few months back. I think this horse has been beat dead enough. But if you feel it has not, please continue.

Belive me, no one at UD from the fans to the administraion wants to be part of the BE. There was some interest last year but thats all it was just curiosity.

Everyone at UD is very satisfied with the A10 and for the same reasons that Buzz left Marquette, UD will never join. It is interesting that this information has not filtered to this blog.

Oh I forgot, you are all living in the Fox News bubble of mis-information

Why then are you visiting a Big East forum and posting on a forum about expansion? I think you're the delusional one here...

I didn't know Dayton was a member of one of the Power 5 football conferences like Virginia Tech. #sarcasm
