but what if that is the case. In some ways, we are screwed either way...

If FS1 doesn't get anything, they won't be viable for very long. We need them to get properties to be viable long term....

If FS1 does get NBA and Big Ten, with lucrative bidding, stands to reason that they will get some pretty plum spots that had been going to us. It's not like FS1 is going to get rid of the UFC for instance...

I think best case would be FS1 getting one or the other. That costs us a few spots, but still helps the exposure and still leaves a decent number of slots.

Even if we are a "Stop-Gap" we are partnered with a business that does not roll over and die. They fight until they are #1. They fight until they are seen as peers to the power players. So in a decades time we might share FS1 with the NBA, B1G and half of the Pac and Big XII but we will still be a conference who is highlighted on that channel. Nothing else is even really up for bid until the end of our own contract. So who are they going to sign thats going to push us off the network?

Is ESPN going to ignore the Big Ten? The NBA? Pac-12? Big XII? They can ignore us but if the station continues to grow it's going to be harder for them to act like we don't exist.

Big difference though is that ESPN will still have a piece of all those properties. The Big East would be the only thing that they have no stake in.

I don't think you realize how thin things get if Fox gets NBA, Big Ten. NBA- 1 night a week would be a dh. Let's say Wednesday as Turner has Tue/Thu and ESPN has Fri. UFC isn't going anywhere- and won't be buried on Friday nights. All of a sudden you are down to only 2 of Monday/Tuesday/Thursday nights. And you are sharing with the Big Ten and they would have a lot of 7pm starts as well.

Geez stever. First you complain that FS1 gets no exposure because they have no properties and is a disaster. Then you state that if they get the NBA/Big Ten, the Big East will get screwed cause they won't get any good time slots. You can't be doomsday both ways....

Right, the argument is coming from both directions...

What I opine and Big East proponents don't like to hear is the Big East is not a franchise type property rather a stop gap measure being used until Fox can attract more high profile content. ESPN is going to do everything in their power to hinder those efforts and minimize any FS1 franchises like the Big East. There is no downside in the strategy ESPN because Big East viewership is next to non existent. Added to the fray is NBC Sports who just stole the Olympics for another 20 years and make no mistake this was a huge win because reports are they got it for the same price no or little price creep (increase). And NBC Sports does a good job much more entertaining network than FS1 at this point.

So they have no properties then they pick up two and we're playing on Telemundo. Yeah Stever, i'm sure Fox is going to completely forget about us once they get the NBA and B1G. I don't think the B1G will split it's package because they still want content for the BTN. They will sign with one channel.

Lets be realistic here. Lets say FS1, Turner and ESPN all have NBA packages. FS1 gets Mon and Thurs, ESPN gets Tues and Fri and Turner gets Weds.

UFC is on Weds on FS1 with a 9PM EST start time (most fights are in Vegas and other western cities). You can still have a BBall game precede it with a 7pm EST start time.

College BBall double headers Tues and Fri with all day of College hoops Sat & Sun. So we still have Tues, Weds, Fri, Sat & Sun. Yeah where will we ever find time to be on TV! hahahahaha

Don't you see that this will make FS2 a more watchable channel. They will have Boxing, and college basketball from 4 major conferences. Hell they could even move the UFC to there if they wanted.

UFC takes up entire night- so 7pm start generally wouldn't happen on Wednesday nights...

For the NBA- Turner normally has had Tuesday/Thursday, and ESPN has had Wednesday/Friday. Don't think that changes much at all.... Think FS1 would get a Monday package along with something over the weekend....

So got Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday/Sunday as the options. Friday not a big basketball night at all- don't think that would change much.

The question will be if Fox got the Big Ten is how much they would take. I think it's VERY possible that Big Ten splits their package. For one, even in basketball, there's now 18 more conference games with Maryland and Rutgers added. They can add a FS1 package AND keep games on ESPN and Big Ten network. The 1 million dollar question is what slots the Big Ten would require to sign with FS1. Could easily see them wanting 7pm start times on Tuesday/Thursday's for instance.

As far as FS2 is concerned- that's long ways down the road. They wouldn't have from 4 major conferences- just Big Ten, Pac 12, and Big East.(don't have Big 12 at all in basketball). Don't see Big Ten allowing any of their programming on FS2. And yes, Big Ten has the leverage to force that. UFC won't be going to FS2 either.

You're wrong, they do have the Big XII in BBall. I've watched Oklahoma State play some other Big XII chumps on FS1.

Nope...

They have Big 12 for football and baseball but not basketball.

I stand corrected, but that just goes against your theory that there won't be any room for us on FS1. If ESPN was able to make enough room for the ACC, B1G, Big East, SEC, Big XII and NBA on ESPN prime then I think FS1 will be able to do the same with the BE, Pac, B1G, NBA and UFC.

3 things-
1st- each of the conferences got like only 30 games on ESPN itself.
2nd- tying in with 1, there isn't anywhere near the drop off between ESPN and ESPN 2 as FS1/FS2. If a team has 5 games on ESPN2 it's not anywhere near a negative. That's a big thing. A conference wouldn't view having some games on ESPN 2 as a big negative. A conference would view having some games on FS2 as a huge negative. Big Ten likely in their deal would specify that no games are to be on FS2. and, yes, they would have the clout to make that happen.
3rd- UFC takes off an entire night... It's not the same as another conference by any stretch....

bottom line if FS1 got NBA and Big Ten- we won't get 108 games on FS1 like we did this year. Just will not happen. And realistically speaking, it won't just be the dog OOC games that will get cut, but also some conference games. Probably will see CBSSN get some better games and some of the games that were on CBSSN would move down to FS2. We won't have weeks like last year with 8 games on FS1. It'll be more like the week where we had 5 games on FS1(Feb 24-Mar 2). That'll be our new normal.
