Basically I'm saying I'd take PC's good regular season with the injuries & suspensions & their March run over Nova's strong regular season & march flameout. Depends on your standard what reg season games mean & what the purpose of all the work a team puts in before & during the season really is for.

So Dew you're saying a solid regular season & a BE championship is worse than a very good regular season and a disappointing March? Maybe if VU made the sweet 16 I could agree. Seton Hall's season was made tolerable just by beating you guys in in the BET and it bought KW some time (fair or not) While the Hoyas have had excellent seasons & terrible post-season putting pressure on JT3.

Question I have is what coach Cooley or Wright do you really think is out there on the trail saying they are last season's BE champs....I bet it's not both of them.

I will start by saying that I obviously wish we had done more damage in March. However, I would take a dominating 16–2 conference record, a top 10 ranking for the entire season, a MTE title with wins over Kansas and Iowa plus an NCAA tourney win over a Big East tourney title without a sniff of any of the other things I mentioned.

I love the big east tournament and I think winning it is awesome, but I wouldn't give away an entire season of accomplishments for that alone. It seems like that is what you are arguing for.

Really. So first you list every accomplishment you can think of from VU's regular season, then simply compare that to PC's BET championship. The straw man cometh.

I already said VU had a very good regular season especially given preseason expectations but I also said PC had a good season considering all they had to overcome, even before the BET. I didn't play your game, I judged both schools entire seasons and said I give PC's season the slight nod. You guys had 29 wins & they had 23, they were the 4 seed in the BET, it's not like they were a cinderella team. Going a combined 1-2 in the post-season is a huge disappointment for a top 10 team that November tourny's don't just wash away, whether you're cool with it or not. Coaches have gotten fired over to many seasons like that (Lavin). Let's see what you think next year if Nova has another season like this past one.

It's a close call to me, but I'm just used to higher standards in the BE. I think saying they ended the season better is an understatement. VU got a banner in the mail, PC got a trophy in MSG on national TV. I just don't see much difference between VU (29 wins), CU (27) & PC's (23) seasons. The only way I can really rank the season's are BE champ>Reg Season Champ>BET runner-up. Giving Nova credit for being the best team in the league after only winning one game in the NCAAT & winning no games in the BET would be unimaginable in the oBE. Syracuse & JB used to get dogged for having terrific regular seasons and embarrassing the league in the post season. I know you guys played they eventual NCAAT champs tough but that just highlights how teams view the regular season. Most teams use it to get ready for the post-season, not to peak.

I agree about the no dog in this fight but I'm actually arguing for a higher standard in the conference. "Mid-majors" would normally consider that type of season a success (against weaker competition no doubt). I'm just not used to a BE team having a terrible end to a season coming back 2 months later saying we had the best season in the conference. Just imagine if the entire conference gained that same perception where we can perform great in the regular season but flame out in the NCAAT, and that's considered a great accomplishment. That's the definition of a mid-major conference. I think Nova's better than that and I think the BE needs to be better than that.

While nova may have underperformed, we did win a game in the NCAA tournament and nearly beat the eventual national champion. PC got a good draw in MSG avoiding Nova and then won a close game vs Creighton before losing in the first game of NCAAT. Again, not sure PC was as amazing at the end as you claim. They won. I give them credit for that. I'd still take Nova's season every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Interesting, not that it wasn't a fun season especially given the average expectations preason, but what's so great about beating Kansas in August and then go 1-2 in March as a #1 (BE) & #2 (NCAAT) seed? Villanova's better than that man, too much history to celebrate last season too much. Jay Wright is stealing money if that's the new standard in Philly...Ed Pickney just caught a spasm & Scottie Reynolds is rolling over in his grave somewhere after that comment

So PC fans would celebrate just making it to the tourney and SHU fans celebrate 1 BET win, while Nova fans expect to be ranked, to make tourney runs and to carry a heavier load in this conference. But to ignore that Nova, along with CU and McBuckets were the ONLY story in the BE last year, is stupid. Had they not had the success they had and been ranked for the entire season, how awful would the BE had been painted last year? And for all of your: "PC won when it mattered and Nova didn't'" at the end of the day Nova did something SHU hasn't done in a decade and PC in over a decade: win a tourney game. So if you want to say that the BET performance trumps the regular season, then the NCAA tourney certainly trumps the BET.

Just to be clear: I'm not a nova fan and I agree with you on the standards compared to the old big east. I entered this thread just to agree with Vill that I believe Nova had a better year than PC. That's really all. I'll give it a rest now.

Damn Dew I thought you were another Nova fan getting upset that I feel they had the 2nd best season in the BE this year, by a little. If I were a CU, BU or X fan I wouldn't want to believe the standards have gone down just because we arrived and cuse/uconn etc left. I say same standards as before even though there's work to do. It is looking good on the recruiting front so far.
