Agreed. It would be like the Pacers getting more points than the Heat (if they win one more game & represent the East in the finals) for finishing 1st in the East during the regular season.

I couldn't disagree more. A regular season of head to head contests is much more indicative of the strength of a team compared to the results of a weekend tournament. Give some bonus to a conference championship, but not much.

That's fine we can agree to disagree. But the tradition is what it is. The BET champion has always been the considered "THE" champion in bball, just like the NCAAT. Trying to inflate the value of regular season games is actually downplaying the difference in level of competition the post season brings (not to mention neutral court play.) It's one of the top reasons why millions tune into March Madness and not November Madness.

It's funny because Georgetown has one of the most competitive across the board athletic departments in the BE, but only title we won this year was regular season Men's soccer.

2nd in women's soccer(regular season), 2nd in women's lacrosse, 2nd in women's XC, 2nd in women's swimming, 2nd in women's diving, 2nd in men's swimming, 2nd in men's diving, 2nd in women's indoor track, 2nd in men's indoor track, 2nd in women's golf, 2nd in women's out door track, 3rd in Men's outdoor track.

You're absolutely right, but that's not the way it is any more. It's about Super Bowl, World Series, NBA Finals, NCAA tournament, BCS, etc.

Funny thing is that Creighton won more games than anyone in the conference (regular season + tournament). They don't get credit for either championship, yet they were the best team in the conference this year.

um, last I checked Villanova won just as many games as them, with 2 fewer losses. 16-3 vs 16-5.

Adult sports is about the last man, woman, team standing. When the last BE game was played PC was the winner= Champion. Regular season championships are important & historical but they are easily trumped by post-season championships. Ask the Patriots do they feel like the 16-0 regular season trumped any year where they won it all. The Carolina Panthers won the NFC South but lost at home to the wildcard 49ers who came within one tipped pass away from the SB. Who had the better season? Even a sport like golf which supposedly treats every win during the season the same shows it's true colors when the only question anyone cares about is "when will Tiger win another major."

Personally I don't care much about how a team played in November/December as compared to March/April. I think it's always been that way in most sports, but I know its been the case in the BE.

The regular season has a much more meaningful champion. Obviously, I'd have loved to win MSG too, but to give less credit to Nova than to Providence is just plain crazy.

What about Creighton? They don't get credit for either but they had just as many conference wins as Villanova.

If we were assigning points based on finish they'd get the second highest value. Isn't that what we're discussing? In terms of an overall ranking they would get their due using the regular season finish.

Soooo you think Villanova was the BE champion last season or PC & Nova were some kind of co-champions?

Villanova was the regular season champion and top seed in the tourney. PC was the tournament champion. The question is "who had the better year"? If that's what is important then Nova should get more "points" than PC in this arbitrary scale.
