Cuse can play in Philly easily as well. Temple is very realistic.

DC is a bit harder- but I know for instance in football this year Syracuse plays Maryland. Very possible to see them play there some. If nothing else- Big Ten/ACC challenge.

So I think the impact of Big East scheduling them is a tad bit overrated. Also- quite frankly if Cuse played Temple or Maryland- that elevates those schools some.

I hear your point but G'Town, Nova & St. John's turning their back on them will take them away all their historic rivalries. Sure they can play Maryland, Temple & (pick an NYC exempt tourney) but it isn't the same cache. Quite frankly the only rivalry left to flame would be UConn.

The east coast kids they normally recruit will not be interested in playing in Southern Canada & down south North Carolina venues on a consistent basis. Recruiting would reflect that as time goes on.

I think in a lot of ways what's important for Syracuse isn't keeping the rivalries as much as it's keeping a foothold in those cities. Syracuse getting 2-3 games a year in NYC does them wonders- no matter who the opponent is. Same can be said with Philly and DC.

Also, for the 3 BE teams- losing Syracuse as a game does hurt. You can act like it doesn't but fact is it does.

My point is simple- there's not enough of a penalty to Syracuse to not schedule them. Syracuse can get close enough benefits if they want to playing other teams in the cities. Especially I'd say in St John's case. You aren't keeping Syracuse out of NYC.

Here is a very timely article on how Cuse schedules.
http://www.syracuse.com/orangebasketball/index.ssf/2014/05/how.html#incart_m-rpt-2

I find it amazing that some of you would "Cut off your nose to spite your face". So because you think you can freeze Cuse out of NYC/Philly/DC (you can't) it will somehow be better for you and get back at Cuse. Tell that to your Athletic Department. Syracuse is the big bad villain that sells out your gyms...all those Cuse fans that come in are bringing in $$$ to your AD. The game gets on TV and is talked about. It is probably your biggest game of the year too for fan excitement. If you beat us it is a big story. In the east coast really only Duke can draw like Cuse does for the Hoyas/Cats and Johnnies. Kentucky maybe too...since Big Blue Nation travels so well.

Fortunately Nova and SJU figured that out...neither school has played the BS ticket scams to the extent like Georgetown has done. I think Georgetown will sign a long term contract to and the series can continue.

All schools sell to their donors first and foremost. Georgetown has a select game every year that they make a gray out game and try to sell all the tickets to Georgetown fans. We've done it for Duke when they come to town and they never complain. Duke only gives the bare minimum tickets to opposing teams. WV will only sell tickets to athletic donors. Georgetown isn't cheating or doing something unorthodox. They're making sure all the Hoya fans who want tickets can get them first. Stop crying. We don't need Syracuse. I want to play Syracuse, but it's not a need. We're making twice as much money from our TV deal than we did before the BE split up, so we're doing just fine financially.

Once Georgetown consistently puts out a winning product the fans will come. In the 2007 and 2008 and 2009 years we had great attendance. It's fall off since then because the product has fallen off. It will get better the next couple of years.

So your schools are making twice the money now yet some of the fans here want to punish the Cuse for doubling your bottom-line?

BTW, Duke has no place to complain. They only distribute about 75 tix to all teams...Cuse will sell visiting schools as many tickets as they want...no games.

Cuse also plays in a stadium that seats up to 49,000. Can't sell that many seats for a non-NCAA basketball game.
This is my opinion. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

I'd like Georgetown to schedule both Syracuse and UConn going forward. I don't want the Hoyas scheduling the schools that sued the Big East as they ran for the door: West Virginia, Pitt and crappy Rutgers.

Rivals or not... 'Cuse is one of the biggest names in the country - pure elite program - and in the northeast, lets face it, they draw better ratings and more fans in more places than anyone else for basketball. They were pulling 21-25K fans for games against Colgate, Binghamton, and my old school LeMoyne at the dome and 30K-plus for many of the schools in the ACC. Let's not pretend by choosing to not play 'Cuse we're causing more harm to them than ourselves.

'Cuse can get with a promoter and the Garden, Wells Fargo Center, or Verizon Center and schedule up their own events if they wanted to and FILL any of them playing basically anyone.

You don't pass up playing elite programs - no matter how butthurt - they're elite and they just happen to have been rivals for decades PLAY THEM and EVERYONE wins! We must continue playing the top teams in the northeast... 'Cuse and UConn no matter what! Preferably OOC home and home, but neutral site if need be - they just need to get it done for image and ticket revenue!

My loyalties and interests are with the 10 Big East schools.
I'm not focused on what Pitt or SU is doing, nor NC State, Clemson, etc.
It's not a matter of cutting-nose to spite-face, it's the readiness of the current BE and old BE to move on.

Also, a BE game vs SU is good, but it's more important for the Orangemen for northeast corridor exposure... and as much as it might seem to make sense, an SU game vs Temple does not grab anywhere near the same level of interest as vs Villanova, any more than an SU game vs LaSalle or St Joseph's or Drexel or Penn would. I mean, it's the name on the jersey as well as the city you're playing in.

Exactly. Another thing that should also be noted is that Syracuse is on an island by itself by Southern Canada and now are forced to play down south non-urban schools (except Ga Tech in Atlanta). They are not a true east coast urban team. They don't have the benefit of guaranteed conference play in these major cities anymore. If Cuse slips and/or Boeheim retires things will change fast. Their is no need to throw them a life raft it doesn't benefit both parties. Cuse is a very good team but, definitely not elite as mentioned earlier in this thread.
