I got chills watching that. The Big East website should just keep that video on constant play. Excellent stuff.

When I try to play that video, the audio plays but the video freezes.

If anyone finds a Fox1 link, or you tube link, please post. Thanks.

It is more important to him to have a higher RPI conference rating than to have a conference member win the NCAA tourney. I guess you have to have something to hang onto. To him, the 9-3 record the AAC had in the NCAA means nothing and the 12 credits earned are irrelevant, compared to the 6 we earned, because, well because he says so.

I am a Butler and Big East fan, but I acknowledge and appreciate good basketball when played by other teams, no matter what their conference affiliation may be. Mr. Marsh seems intent on trashing other conferences, no matter what they have accomplished.

Now, I wouldn't use RPI, but a metric that takes the entire season into account, say Pomeroy, is a far better way to judge the relative performance of a conference than the NCAA Tournament. The NCAA Tournament is not structured to see the best teams/conferences win, it is set up for intrigue. If you wanted the best, you'd invite a fraction of the teams and do a bunch of 5 or 7 game series. A one-and-done tournament tells you one thing, who won 6 games - nothing more.

Many games are determined by coin flips. If you win 3 coin flips in a row, it doesn't mean you are better at coin flips, you were just fortunate. As a Butler fan you should know this more than most, the Butler team in 10/11 was pretty awful through early February and for the season only ended up ranked 33rd - yet they played for a national championship. If they had played in the Big East that year, they would not have even made the tournament. And even in the Tournament, they needed this to escape the first round.....

If Matt Howard is a fraction of a second slower, the people who judge performance by the NCAA Tournament deem Butler's season a massive underachievement after almost winning the title the year before.....

When in doubt, more data > less data. Sorry about this one, but even though he picked the wrong metric, hes on the right side of the argument

I'm glad you and your buddies are satisfied with a mathematical formula that says the Big East was the fourth best conference last year. I'm sure that Big East Coach's incentive packages are tied heavily into mathematical success and they downplay NCAA tourney appearances and wins.

The thing is- almost any way you look at it- the AAC had a better season than anyone was expecting. 4 easy NCAA tourney teams and a 5th team that probably should have been in but made the NIT finals. Instead of Louisville, a departing team winning a NCAA title, it was UConn, a team that is still in the AAC. Tulsa getting into the tourney as a CUSA team is a big bonus. Remember preseason they were saying that AAC would get 3 easy tourney teams and Cincy really on the bubble- with 1 of those being Louisville. So like it or not, they had a much better season than any of you want to admit.

Even if you look at Ken Pom- they were only .0031 away from being the #5 conference this year(which was the Big East). That's nothing at all.

And again, I'd rather be successful in the NCAA tourney like the AAC was than marginally better in the regular season, like the Big East was. Like it or not, college basketball is primarily March/April driven. Do folks realize 30 years ago just how good Houston was? Nope. But they sure remember NC State. So if you stuck a gun to my head and made me pick which type of year I'd rather have- the AAC or Big East year- I'd take the AAC year a million times out of a million. Parity is great but end of the day, March is what legends are made of. That's why Kemba Walker will be remembered a lot more than McDermott ever will.

Okay how about this. Say Butlers half court shot goes in and they beat Duke for the national title. Would that have meant that the Horizon league was the best or one of the best conferences that year? No, of course not. One championship by your best team doesn't signify a great conference. Now if they had say a different team win the next year then you can start to make that claim, or even a different team making a FF run. Something that shows it's not just a one trick pony.
