Big East/Big Ten Press Conference Monday

I'll bet money this isn't the end, and that Fox gets us hooked up with the Pac 12 as well.

I always thought this is what Fox would push all along. With the BE-B1G challenge, I am not sure that there would be enough scheduling flexibility for another challenge, but we can hops.

In fact it wouldn't surprise me a bit if Fox created a couple preseason tourneys of their own on top of that.

Now this I can certainly see, although I suspect MTEs around Christmas and Thanksgiving might be more likely. The whole reason ESPN keeps adding to these is twofold: it creates TV content and it drives people to the Disney theme parks that the corporate parent owns. I am not aware of Fox owning any theme parks or tourist properties, but I can't imagine they are all that happy with seeing BE schools continually play in these events. Create your own, steal the Atlantis one from NBCSports/CBSSports ntwks (I can't remember which has the rights) or buy/sign agreements to televise some of these other tourneys that aren't presently televised. Heck, work with MSG to start a new one there!

Oh there is more than enough room for a Pac-BE challenge. Our new friends in the B1G are playing both us and the ACC in conference challenges.

Maybe Barclays, Philly, or DC could serve as host instead for the "Eastern Basketball Classic," or something like that. It would have to be run not by any existing conference, but, preferably, by someone with ties to the former league. Mike Tranghese or even John Marinatto could run it.

Just imagine the games that could occur:

Year 1: Syracuse-St. John's, Pitt-Villanova, Providence-UConn, Notre Dame-DePaul, Louisville-Cincinnati, Marquette-Virginia Tech (Buzz Williams!)
Year 2: Syracuse-UConn, Pitt-West Virginia, Seton Hall-Rutgers, Boston College-Providence, Cincinnati-Villanova, Louisville-Georgetown.
Year 3: UConn-St. John's, Notre Dame-Cincinnati, Syracuse-Providence, Marquette-Pitt, Villanova-Louisville, Seton Hall-Boston College.

Those are matchups just off the top of my head.

I like the idea of a Big Apple Classic type event. An 8 team tourny featuring teams from the tri-state area.

This is just an example of how it could look.

Cuse vs Stoney Brook, SJU vs Fordham, UConn vs Iona, Rutgers vs Columbia in a straight up tournament over four days at MSG or Barclays.

Obviously, I think the idea stinks because you have completely ignored the three new BE programs.

Your event would work not work if the teams are going to play more than one game. The rules for MTEs, as I understand it, are basically twofold:
1) Only one team per conference allowed (exceptions have been given if schools booked the events while in one conference but jumped to another conference before the event was played).
2) A school can only play in the same MTE once every four years.

Playing only one game lessens the appeal to the schools generally speaking. The reasons schools jump at these events is that they are guaranteed several games against quality opponents on a neutral court (and perhaps a few easy wins) over a short period of time.

The Big East has won on the floor. That's why every rating system had this conference as #4. The AAC that is going forward has not won on the floor. UConn has won on the floor, but that's one member; it's not the conference. Louisville is gone. The old AAC wast rated at #7. Welcome ECU, Tulane, and Tulsa. Watch their conference rating plummet. LOL.
