Ohio de-commit Tariq Owens to visit Seton Hall

By Chris Mcmanus @CerasolisGhost on April 28 2014, 6:16 PM

Jim O'Connor - USA TODAY Sports

After recruiting their way onto 2014 power forward Tariq Owens' (Mt. Zion Prep, Md.) new list, Seton Hall will now receive an official visit from the former Ohio Bobcat pledge. Scout.com ($$) was the first outlet to report the news. SouthOrangeJuice.com can confirm the visit.

The 6-foot-10 Owens received his release from Ohio U last Friday, several weeks after he declared his intention to leave Ohio following the departure of head coach Jim Christian to Boston College. Seton Hall's intention to recruit another 2014 target despite no open scholarships stems from academic problems involving wing forward Desi Rodriguez (Abraham Lincoln, N.Y.), who will likely prep if he doesn't qualify.

Curiously enough, Tariq Owens' AAU squad, Baltimore's Finest, is sponsored by Under Armour. If you haven't heard by now, Seton Hall will switch from Adidas to UA in the summer.

Owens is also looking to visit Tennessee, Dayton, and Washington after Seton Hall, according to the Scout report.

Not very good. I'm telling you, he is a high-mid player at best. Xavier would be better without him.

Product of too much hype in high school. Never really did much when I saw him play in HS.

My guess is that the Xavier staff may seem him as a safety blanket type of pickup. Dee Davis graduates and neither Brandon Randolph or Edmond Sumner may end up being a "true" point guard. I'm somewhat indifferent on getting him, but I would probably prefer we don't.

Feel the same. He's not gonna be happy being the safety blanket, but guess we'll roll with whatever Mack decides.

Thought I saw somewhere that Egbuno was a lock for FLA, good to see G'town with a shot at him.

I'm pretty sure Florida is out of scholarships for the year with them taking on Horford. So he'd have to pay his own way for a year if he went there. I think the Horford Transfer might have taken them out of contention even though he's only going to be there for a year.

So is Georgetown gonna go after Egbunu AND Trey Mourning? Supposedly, Mourning is leaning Georgetown.

I believe Trey is coming either way, whether by hook (schollie) or by crook (walk-on).

Seth Allen leaving Maryland. Really wouldn't mind Xavier getting involved there depending on what happens with Larry Austin (no idea what the odds of that are).
