Big East's Best NBA player

Postby MUBoxer » Tue Apr 22, 2014 6:36 pm

So I read an article about all our NBA players playing in the playoffs and I thought who is our best player. For me it comes down to Wade, Hibbert and West. I think Wade is currently our best player but I'm sure a case can be made for Hibbert. What do you guys think?

Marquette was still in Conference USA when Wade was around, and Xavier in the A-10 during West's tenure. Do they even count? Furthermore, do you discount Carmelo Anthony because Syracuse is now in the ACC?

Yeah I don't count Wade or West as BE players nor would I count any players for teams that left the BE.

That leaves:

Georgetown:
Hibbert
Green
Monroe
Thompson
Sims
Porter

Marquette:
Buycks
Novak
Butler
Crowder
Matthews

Nova:
Lowry
Foye
Cunningham

Providence:
Brooks
Ledo* iffy since he never actually played but i'll give it to them

Seton Hall:
Dalembert

DePaul:
Chandler

St. John's:
Harkless

Those are the Players I found who play for current BE teams played at least 1 year in the BE and are currently on NBA rosters per ESPN.

I'd have to give it to Hibbert at this point even though he's currently struggling.

No Wade or West didn't play in the BE. But do you think a kid watching is thinking "oh I've gotta play for a CUSA school because Wade played in that!" or do you think that he's thinking "oh Wade went to Marquette, Big East!" the player school connection is stronger than player conference. Really I was just talking about ranking our best NBA players.

Also if you're going to count Ledo then you have to count DJO, McNeal, Blue and Hayward all have played this year. (except maybe not Hayward I'm just assuming with that one)

I counted Ledo since he is still currently on a roster. None of those players are currently on a roster. The question about considering Ledo is the fact that he didn't play any games for Providence but since he was officially on Providence's roster before leaving for the NBA I included him.

Based on this year my top 5:

1. Greg Monroe: 15.2 ppg, 9.3 rpg, 2.1 apg, 1.1 stl/gm
2. Kyle Lowry: 17.9 ppg, 7.4 apg, 4.7 rpg, 1.5 stl/gm
3. Jeff Green: 16.9 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 1.7 apg
4. Roy Hibbert: 10.8 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 2.2 blk/gm, 1.1 apg
5. Randy Foye: 13.2 ppg, 3.5 apg, 2.9 rpg

Those are great numbers from Monroe. Didn't realize he had been playing so well. Butler and Matthews having solid seasons as well.

Wes Matthews: 16.4ppg, 2.4apg, 3.5rpg, 44%fg/39%3pg
Jimmy Butler: 13.1ppg, 2.6apg, 4.9rpg, 1.9stl/gm

I really think that with the right coach, the Blazers could be the best team in the league. They have all of the right pieces. Every player is the archetype of their respective position and they have good chemistry and solid 6-8 guys coming off the bench.

If you're counting current Big East schools I would think Gordon Hayward would have to rank pretty high on your list.

Kyle Korver does as much for his team and just about any alum in the NBA.
Nebraska by birth, Creighton by choice.

IMO you have to have actually played in the conference to count as a BE NBA player. So for example I will count Semaj if he makes it as a BE alum.
