Mac-daddy had just been given a vote of confidence to return the following season by his AD at IA State despite the absence of W's, tournaments, or standing in the Big 12 when suddenly Dana Altman took the Oregon job.
Mac-daddy was simply known as a successful coach from his time at Northern Iowa, and possessed the character believed to be a good fit. Creighton was needing to make a decision and i believe they contacted the AD at Ia State who gave the permission and CU went after him. And there was no coach-poach contract penalties imposed from the hire either. So it seemed amicable. As a result, so far anyway, Its worked out well for both schools as Fred Hoyburg is doing well for IA State.
Although it would make sense for many to think next year will be a difficult year at CU.

That's the big question. Next year will be a tougher year for sure. The key is 2015 recruiting IMO. We have the facilities (NBA style arena and brand new practice facility opening in a couple months), the fan support and now the Big East conference. Coach and staff need to reel in a great 2015 recruiting class. We are in on alot of Top 100 2015 recruits. If we can get a few of them, we will be fine.
