Marquette made a great hire today, with Wojo coming on board. Wojo is 37, replacing 41 year old Buzz... I can't believe Buzz Williams is 4 years younger than me...

Anyway, the average age of Big East coaches is (still) 45 years old. <--- 45 is young, energetic, ambitious.
In comparison, the average age of ACC coaches is 55 years old. <--- 55 is... "get off my lawn...!"
You know who was 45 the year before he passed away...? ---> John F. Kennedy...! <---young, energetic, looking to future...!
You know who was 55 the year before he passed away...? ---> Hitler...! <---crackpot, psychopath, smelled like sauerkraut...!

41 year old Buzz replaced 42 year old James Johnson at Va Tech.

Also, I should point out the background behind this thread... (there were questions on the Friar site as to the point of all this)...

I knew Miller and Willard were in their 30's, and when Wojo was hired yesterday I thought it was interesting that at least 3 BE coaches were under 40 yo.

I then decided to take a couple if minutes and see what the average age of coaches was in the Big East. At 45 yo on avg, I thought that was pretty low.

I then wondered if this was typical of many conferences. I took the ACC, knowing going in that they had a lot of 60+ coaches. I got 55 yo as the avg ACC coach. Note: at 45 yo, I didn't have the energy nor ambition nor vitality (joking) to continue on to other conferences.

I then had a bunch of information in an Excel spreadsheet, and was about to delete it, but thought this is kind of interesting stuff. It'd be a shame to delete this, right? So I posted the information on a couple of hoops sites.

I then thought that some sportswriters lurk on this site, so let me get in front of the narrative ---> are BE coaches young and ambitious...? Are ACC coaches seasoned and experienced...? Let me PR-wise make the Big East look good... so that was the background to this.

Is this a good thing? Doesn't that mean when their "aging" coaches retire, they could potentially mean some of our younger coaches could be hiring targets? Some of those aging coaches are at the best basketball schools - the "dream jobs."

Change of scenery. He didn't 20 games there in any of his four seasons and never finished better than 7th in Big 12 Play. There were rumblings that he would be fired before he left for Creighton.
Iowa State just was not a good fit.
