The A-10 had more top 100 RPI teams than the Big East and had a team make it to the Elite 8. The Big East was looking realistically of only getting two bids to the dance. The A-10 got a solid 6 bids. The only thing ludicrous is thinking the Big East was even as good as the A-10 this year – because it was not – not even close. Next Year – the Big East if they are lucky will be on Par to the A-10. The only thing that gets the Big East ahead of the A-10 at this point is them Raiding the A-10 for two teams (Dayton & St. L) outside of that – best case on 2014/15 – Big East = A-10. Just because the New Big East has a better media deal – does not mean it is actually better and it is definitely not the old Big East.

A-10 was better in the Big East in number of bids and units obtained this year. That is it. Head to head, we were like 8-1 against the A-10. Overall, the A-10 will never be better than the Big East. We have better history (more national champions and final fours), better venues (don't play in glorified high school gyms), better fan base (at home and at the conference tournament), play in larger media markets, better media deal (10x more money) etc....not even close.

It's about what the respective conferences are doing NOW. By almost any measure the A10 had a better overall year. Heck, Dayton had more tourney wins than all the BE teams combined. The head to head is worthless since not all teams played each other. Easy to beat up on bottom of the conference. It's all about final ranking in RPI and tourney success-period.

A-10 had a nice year. Enjoy Rose Hill and Olean. VCU will be good next year.

Final RPI has the Big East as the 4th ranked RPI as a conference and the A10 is 6th. Kenpom has the Big East ranked 6th and the A10 ranked 8th.

Tourney success is certainly in favor of the A10 this year but my argument is that the Big East is a better league from top to bottom. My comment in the article is more about overall conference strength and isn't saying this year per se. I'm saying that the Big East is stronger overall and the depth of the league is better in terms of team strength and roster strength.

I agree to a point. Here's the thing though...the bottom of the league doesn't matter. The Big East was one of the most competitive conferences in America, but I think the focus is more on the tops of leagues.

The Big East has a lot of advantages...but the bottom of the league is one I wouldn't be trumpeting.
