When is he expected to begin his new position. I imagine that he has to give some kind of notice to UWM.

He was announced today. The official inauguration is scheduled for September.
Al McGuire: "What is this?"
Waiter: "Mr. McGuire, that is a cull lobster. Sometimes when the lobsters are in the tank, they fight. This one lost a claw."
Al McGuire: "Well then take this one away and bring me the winner."

Thanks.

So, he won't be acting officially in his new position for another 6 months?

He starts August 1st but he can now officially give his "blessing" to the next HC I presume.

Yep. The guy who tweeted "done deal" has basically lost all credibility. The phrase "done deal" will haunt him for the rest of his career.

In (somewhat) fairness to him, he did have reliable sources, but you don't say it's a "done deal" until you have confirmation that there is a signature, regardless of what your source(s) tell you.

I really hope that we can land Ben Howland.

From what I've been told (of course this was after the fact, of ESPN saying that Shaka turned down the job) the timeline was a little different. These two "source" who don't know each other, both stated that Shaka turned down MU late Sunday night, or Monday morning. I love how this comes out after everything, but it corroborates that the national media always believed this was a "non starter".

How this storm of reports from MU saying it was a done deal, or anything, was just bizarre. The "one guy" I said I trusted earlier never wavered, and this other one waited to get back to me. I'll be honest, these sources could've just gotten lucky in this case - but they haven't been wrong before. It was just odd that one fanbase was so sure, and the other was sure of the opposite happening.

I've been hoping Marquette would stay on Ben Howland. Then if the Big East expands down the road, VCU should get one of the invites. This way, the Big East would get two solid coaches. After all, a basketball league is only as good as its coaches.

Yeah, with Shaka now out of the picture, I've come around to thinking that Howland would still be great for Marquette. Howland would be an upgrade over Buzz Williams, so this coaching search process can ultimately result in a net positive.

Now, what's the deal with DePaul...? Are they really giving Purnell another year...? Are there any possibilities...? The North Dakota State guy...? Mark Aguirre...? I would consider getting DePaul back in contention should be top goal in the BE...

No journalist or sports insider puts his reputation, and to some extent his career, on the line for something that's a "non-starter." The argument from ignorance is a fallacy, bro: silence from the national media =\= false. You were on the MU board. You are now here. Deep down, you have to know there was too much smoke to be no fire. Very reputable people on the MU board gave pretty specific info of what was going on (eg, using Doc Rivers as a backchannel). You can believe silence from the national media as the tell-all that Shaka has never even heard of Marquette University, and I will believe multiple guys with proven track records, one of whom (IWB) publicly put his reputation on the line.

All of this is a moot point anyway. He declined the offer. But you VCU guys seem hellbent on dispelling that story because it bodes well with the your collective notion that Shaka would not only never leave VCU, but he would never even dare to entertain the thought.

Depauls AD said she is keeping him, probably too cheap to fire him.
