Another thing that I like is that while we may not have a lot of top 20 guys, we have a lot of guys 20-100.
That elite talent is likely NBA talent which will be in college for 1-2 years. Most of the guys coming to the BE are top players, but likely stay in school 3-4 years (I prefer experience/stability).
Many have said the first year of the conference is crucial for image and perception, I agree. We would be in a lot of trouble if we had 5 top 100 kids coming in this year...as we would have to fight against the grain. Having top guys in the first year will make it easier to get top kids in the upcoming years. We are in a good spot, and the 2014 class is crucial to the league. The BEast brand and image will be molded on how good these kids are, how they develop, and how the teams look like after the next 4 years. These first 5 years (2018 class) will likely lay the groundwork for the permanent future of the conference on a national scale.
stever20 wrote:my point is simple. The 2014 class was done somewhat pre-split, and totally pre-awful tv ratings for FS1.
The 2015 class is going to be a lot clearer in terms of the new reality. Right now, ESPN has top 60, and only 1 BE recruit so far- a guy for Marquette. 11 of the top 60 have committeed so far. Rivals has top 150, and we have 4, including the 1 for Marquette. (I say Marquette just because of the coaching change- any coaching change and the recruits could flip real easily). I don't know if that's a typical number at this point or not quite frankly.
The one other thing that hurts us is we're not getting a lot of the top tier players. I mean, right now in the top 20 we have 1 player for 2014.
Also, quite frankly, recruiting ratings a lot of times are a joke. You'll look at lists 4-5 years from now and just shake your head at the ratings.
I'd much rather be in the Big East's position right now recruiting wise than not, but it's not an absolute guarantee for sucess in the future.

Stever you need to spend some quality time with a loved one, or have a drink or something...
Using your own logic let's take a closer look at 2015. 22 kids on that Rivals list have committed. 4 of them are BE kids. I'm no math whiz but that represents 18.2% of the list. 18%+. If we are comparing ourselves to the following leagues: ACC, B1G, PAC12, BIG12, SEC--not to mention the AAC, A-10, MWC, etc.) it would be impossible for many of these conferences to match that %. And oh by the way we have 10 schools and many of the others have many more. And stop with the not getting the top talent crap. Calipari and Self are loading up on one-and dones, and they are no better than a team full of 3rd and 4th year players who have developed in a system. Nova had Tim Thomas for one year. It was fun thinking he was going to come in and dominate as he was the #2 recruit that year behind Kobe. Give me a Dante Cunningham over him every day of the week and twice on Sunday. The BE will not suffer by not getting one and dones. In fact I'm concerned that the kid that SHU is getting might hurt the program more than help if he is a one and done. If the BE grabs 10-12 Top 100 kids a year, they will be more than fine. 2014 follows that script and 2015 is off to a good start.
Think before you post man and stop with the sky is falling routine. It's one thing to say that you are concerned b/c we had a less-than-expected first year, but you make a definitive statement that our recruiting is going to suffer and point to 2015. When we already see 4 Top 100 recruits (out of 22 who have committed), and many more targeted, your argument looks foolish. You are truly exhausting with your doom and gloom.

No it's not...The BE doesn't have to recruit at this same level every season to be great. That's for the Kentucky's, etc who loose talent b/c of 1 and doner's. Recruiting is only the first step, next is talent & physical development. 2015 will be more about the 2014 class becoming sophomores for most BE schools, than plugging holes via recruiting. Take Seton Hall, we're not going to need 5 more top recruits in 2015, maybe 1 or 2 (a big man), Xavier same, PC same, etc.
The simple fact that a 10 team league is bringing in 14 top 100 players is exactly why 2015 won't be as good, these same guys are going to be getting minutes in 2015. The 2014 recruiting class is way more important than you are giving credit for because it has set the foundation for the next 3-4 years for the league.
