UD is a good program...one of the better mid majors out there. But you guys must admit this is a freak year for you. You were 1 bucket away from missing the tourney all together then you not only make it but beat OSU and Cuse to reach the Sweet 16. I'm going to guess something like that won't happen for another lifetime. It's one thing if that's what Dayton consistently did, but it's the outlier, not the common thing. If Cuse and Dayton played 100 times Cuse would probably win at least 75 and that's being conservative. That's not to take credit away...Dayton has done a great job so far.

But look in terms of overall program. Yes you have a big fan base. But your brand is very weak. At this point, VCU, STL, Richmond, UMass, etc. still have much more of a brand name as mid majors. Dayton is a tiny market. You have to understand that almost no one in the NYC/Philly/Boston area even knew who Dayton was maybe until these recent upsets...if they know at all. Dayton is not in the top 25 consistently enough and they don't go deep in the tournament enough to really get their brand out there. Also on another note, your logo looks like it's from the 80's and your jerseys are baggy like it's 2000. This year Dayton has put themselves out there. Good. Now keep it up. To be in the Big East these days you can't just have 1 great year and other decent ones. You have to be in or around the top 25 consistently and sustain success over many cycles of recruiting classes. If Dayton proves they can consistently be in or around the top 25 and bring in top 100 recruits I'd say take them.

Its kinda funny when you see a program suffer terrible luck. THIRTY YEARS..Late season injuries, defections, transfers, bad bounces, hell we even had a promising young center drop dead of a heart ailment.
Then finally some day light and what does some goofball say? THEY GOT LUCKY !

What numbers are you using? Dayton did not play 7 ACC teams this year, and over time, they're certainly not undefeated against the ACC. Further, it would take going back to 1985 to accumulate 7 Dayton wins against ACC teams.

Wins
Syracuse in the NCAA (2014)
Georgia Tech (2013)
Boston College (2012)
Wake Forest (2011)
Georgia Tech (2009)
North Carolina in the NIT (2010)
Maryland (1985)

Losses
North Carolina by 30 (2006)
Duke (2002)
Virginia (1987)
Virginia (1987)

More likely, I think you're just pulling numbers out of your ass.

That's an understatement. Flyers won as many NCAA Tournament games in the last week (2) as they had in the previous 30 years.

Of course, it's all X's fault. It could never be Dayton's complete lack of on-court success until last Thursday.

Here is what I have learned on the 400th thread about Dayton:

Dayton:
Huge fan base, with passionate fans
will get over 12,000 fans per game
travel well to tournaments

Xavier:
Hates Dayton
Dayton doesn't belong in the same world as Xavier
Xavier thinks since they are in the Big East and the invite wasn't extended, some Xavier fans act like they are Duke and Kansas compared to little sisters of the poor.
Xavier fans want Dayton fans off of this board, but the A10 boards are flooded with Xavier fans.

My response: WHO CARES?? If and when expansion does happen, then Dayton can be evaluated. Do I think Dayton would be a good add? Yes, I do. A big arena and even though their NCAA tournament success has been lacking, it isn't like losing to Dayton is an RPI killer in the league. Their attendance will bring some money.

I mean no disrespect to any Big East school when I say this, but people need to realize the OBE is not the NBE. Pitt, Louisiville, UConn, are gone and if you think Butler and Xavier are the type of programs to replace them, then the NBE is in for a huge disappointment. I do think the league will consistently be a top 5 league, but no one on here knows for sure what will happen. Fact is after one year, the league flopped in the postseason and even die hard fans on here admit that. Xavier lost in a play in game, St. Johns was blown out by Robert Morris in the NIT, and the two best teams lost by double digits in the round of 32, with Creighton not belonging on the same court as Baylor. Buzz Williams left a school with a ton of money to get out of the conference, and now rumors are swirling about Chris Mack, who is a Cincinnati guy. I want the BE to succeed and do well, but facts are facts. It is one year; it is completely different league than last year. I know people on the board hate Dayton, and I do realize they have a fan base that at times is difficult to take, but if you are trying to state that Dayton can't compete with Seton Hall, St. Johns, Depaul, Providence, and Butler then I completely disagree. Like I said, I realize it is one year, but the Big East and Fox Sports didn't exactly light the world on fire in the inaugural year. I do think eventually that changes, but right now it is what it is.

No sir..I was pulling for Ohio State since I have family there and Dayton ended my tournament hopes after the first game. The only thing I cared about was the ACC flopping.

If you are a Dayton fan and you are bragging about wins over teams like GT, VT, Wake Forest, BC, etc. then you are part of the problem. The point is that Big East teams are EXPECTED to beat those bums.

By the way, judging major teams by NIT performance is stupid. By the time major teams who were on the bubble for the real tournament get into the consolation tournament, they are likely done. I still wanted them to play their hearts out I mean hell they were a 1 seed. But it was beyond obvious that they didn't care about the NIT. Robert Morris also had one of those shooting days like Creighton vs. Nova the first time...some games you are just going to tip your cap when the other team makes every 3 that goes up. But if it was the regular season I think it's a different story. Mid majors are much hungrier come NIT time than the major teams because the NIT for a mid major is still a big accomplishment as it's very difficult to make the NCAA's.

And the Xavier fans that say they are lightyears better than Dayton are right. I always knew Xavier well before they came here. I never knew Dayton until a handful of years ago. Xavier is national. Dayton is not. Xavier recruits as well as almost any team not named Duke, UNC, L'Ville, Kansas, UK, or Cuse. Dayton doesn't. Xavier basically lived in the top 25 for the past decade. Dayton has not. Xavier has not only made tournaments all the time but they go very deep in them. Dayton got their first big run this year.

These programs are not as similar as you'd like them to be.

Allow me to introduce you to a site.

You will be amazed at how much information you can find on any player, coach, conference, season, program, etc., and how quickly you can find it.

Is there a St John's fan on here talking about how difficult it is to get into the Big East? Hasn't St. John's only won 1 NCAA tournament game in something like 13 years? St. John's ought to be tossed from a league with the expectations being described here.
