Also averages like 60-80 RPI for the past 10 years (I would have to go do the math to confirm, but this is directionally correct). So Dayton has been consistently very good the past 10 years, but have not had the luck/skill or a nice NCAA run.

I would guess Dayton's proximity to Xavier is their biggest negative.

Rue, your arguments comparing Dayton to Creighton are compelling.

Some of the Creighton decision could've been about its political connections to the Big East through Marquette.

The more alarming problem for Dayton is its proximity to Xavier and even Butler. More to the point, and notwithstanding the fact that Dayton is measured as being in a different television market, it may simply be the case that the presidents prefer to spread things out.

I don't know that that is the case. If that is the case, then St. Louis would be well positioned as an expansion candidate, assuming again that expansion does take place at some point. Perhaps the jury is out on Jim Crews, but St. Louis is demonstrating that it can deliver and impactful program.

I guess at least we will have something to discuss over and over for a while on this board!

SecureDaBall & XuDash, totally agree.

I like St. Louis and my family knows their new President very well (he is a great guy and SLU is lucky to have him). I think St. Louis clearly has the nod over Dayton due to TV/New market and a good travel partner with Creighton (just a little caveat that without Rick M., I have doubts about Crews and their direction going forward). Anyway, St. Louis very likely.

So it will be a question IMHO about a better profile = Dayton versus a better geographic fit = Richmond. I want Pope Francis to weigh in :-)

Again, I might be crazy, but I don't see the institutional fit with VCU.

I think that Dayton is only doing itself more favors by winning in the tournament. I for one am enjoying watching them. Beating OSU and Syracuse is impressive.

Great, more posts on why UD should be in a league by people who have no power to make those decisions. What exactly do the ud fans think they're accomplishing by going over their program credentials over and over. We get it, you didn't get in, you want in, you think you're entitled to it. Maybe you can go team by team and make up a score and record for being in this league this year.

I like ud fans for the most part. Great fan base. From everything we know that's out in the public is that this league isn't expanding anytime soon. So I don't get the 15 different threads on ud from their fans base and from other be fans. You're having a good run. Enjoy it. No need to run to another conference board and try to tell people with no clout " I told you so!" I'm sure the BE presidents saw that you won a few games in March and if expansion happens I'm sure they'll consider your program. Cool?

As long as the UD subject matter is properly posted to a UD titled thread- I see no harm. Kind readers like yourself can simply choose to omit opening those threads. Being raised in the Midwest (Ohio and Chicago) I for one can see why there is so much UD postings. There is so much history with these programs - but I can understand that those in the Northeast may not share this POV.

Wow....Dayton has won two games in the tourney and now may deserve an invite to the Big East? Give me a f$cking break. They've won four NCAA tourney games in 20 years, and that's including this year(2). They have been a middle of the pack Atlantic Ten team since they have joined. They beat a BCS team every now and then.

To be blunt, Dayton is a dead city. What little industry they had is gone. No one goes to Dayton of their own free will. You don't graduate from college and see if there are job openings in Dayton. The ONLY thing in Dayton for Daytonites to become vested in is there basketball program......because there is nothing else there. This truth is more than evident in how delusional/insecure their fan base acts, touting accomplishments from 50 years ago, crying foul in the present, and spouting delusions of grandeur for future teams. As the great John Chaney said when the A10 tourney was in Dayton "why are we playing in the sticks".

Dayton has not established any type of brand nationally. As a recruit, is there anything "sexy" about saying I just commited to Dayton? The Big East already has this area covered with X and Butler. If you are a Dayton fan, what would they bring to the table if invited? The Dayton TV market is useless at best. At this point they are a middle tier A10 team.....

I think the biggest reasons Dayton is not as respected is because A) the lack of a name brand especially nationally…many people before the Cuse/OSU wins had no clue who Dayton was. I'll be honest…I didn't even know until about 5 or 6 years ago. B) the lack of the star power…Creighton had McDermott. I don't remember any clear bonafide beast from Dayton…not saying there's anything wrong with not having 1 clear stud that stands out, but it helps with recognition.

The brand name will hold them back. Don't get me wrong…Dayton is a very nice program. But every Big East team except maybe PC, Seton Hall, and DePaul are pretty well-known in more than just their relative markets. Dayton doesn't seem to dominate their league like Creighton did. They got hot at the right moment. Weren't they very close to being left out of the tourney and barely made it? Creighton was never like that…they were always a sure tourney team.

X doesn't want Dayton in the Big East--I get it.
Buts whats best for X isnt always good for the big east.

So you can do whats best for x or you can do whats best for the conference.

We live and recruit in an area that has Ohio St, Indiana, X, UC, U of L, Kentucky ,Miami oh, Butler, Wright State the list goes on.
If somehow X can convince conference members that they need breathing room ascertained by keeping out ONE quality program out of a dozen, then thats on the conference members.

The idea is to form the best conference possible.
Not eliminate one of a dozen threats to X.
Its a little silly.

Ud is further away from X than Balitmore is to Washington DC...

AS far as the comment earlier about star power and Doug McDermott....Dayton currently has Three players playing in the NBA.
