Dayton Finally Gets It's NCAA Success

So the one thing X fans and others have always threw out when Dayton was brought up as a possible expansion candidate was their lack of NCAA Tournament success. Now they have reached the Sweet 16 beating two legit college BBall programs in Ohio State and the ever hated Syracuse Orange.

Does this run make them a slam dunk along with Saint Louis as teams 11 & 12?

Unless they make the Final Four, I don't really think it changes anything.

Personally, I think it does. As you have probably seen, they haven't been to the S16 in over 30 years. So they have been in basketball limbo forever since then. Always good, not great, but still always selling out UD Arena and making good appearances at away games. I don't know if this will finally bring them back to basketball relevancy, but they have always been on the edge, just not able to find a way to get over that hump.

Well the one strike against them was they had no NCAA success. Now they have the fan base, the academics, the geography and now NCAA success. Who else has all of that?

But the craziest thing I saw from a xu fan last night on Twitter was our coach and his wife are good enough for big east but not dayton. Lol

I know it sucks, but try not to take it too personally. Dayton is in a good spot right now. Enjoy the run. Watching the Stanford-Kansas game right now and you guys can certainly play with either.

Unless they make the Final Four, I don't really think it changes anything.

That's a pretty big pre-requisite when you realize Creighton hasn't been a Sweet 16 since 1974, is in a smaller TV market than Dayton, and isn't located in a better recruiting area.

I am for not expanding any time soon but it makes sense from a public relations perspective to add Dayton now while they are in the Sweet 16 if it is inevitable that they will be added. The old Big East was reactive, this league needs to be proactive.

Lets try not to make a habit of quoting each fanbase's trolls. I assure you there are plenty to go around for Dayton as well.

What is or isn't true? Dayton is helping their case with their current run. It may or may not be enough for the presidents, but it is a positive addition to their expansion portfolio either way. My post was meant to say "don't take the message board talk too seriously. UD is having a great run right now. Enjoy it." If Stanford/Kansas plays in the next round like they are tonight (22-24 at half), then UD has a decent chance to advance to the Elite 8.
