Our AD gets shown the door in December. Buzz's buyout goes from $2million to $100,000. A kind of polite way of telling him that he is no longer wanted?

Don't buy Buzz's potshots at the BE either. He left for the ACC because it's a better conference? Please. Can you imagine Shaka Smart going to Oregon State because the PAC is such a superior conference? Buzz inquired about the Auburn job! If he were truly out to get into the ACC, why inquire about Auburn, the worse of the power conferences.

EDIT: The reason for the change in buyout leaves room for speculation, of course.

Thanks for posting this. As more info comes out, please post it here. His sniffing around at Auburn is also an important part of this mystery.

Buzz took LESS money going from Marquette to Virginia Tech. He had a roll-over contract each year, which had the potential to go up to $4 million based on performances (which he certainly was on the path to). He basically had carte blanche (he didn't get along with the previous AD, and he left earlier this year), and thus reported only to himself. He had prime facilities, fan support and top recruits coming in.

Even if he is moving up a conference (ACC), it is clearly a downgrade for him IMO. VT has only had 8 NCAA Tournament appearances in their history. One Elite Eight, one Sweet 16. If he manages to get to TWO NCAA Tournaments in the next 7 years, I will be shocked.

I will still root for him, though. He did wonderful things for us at Marquette.

I had also heard a rumor that Buzz received the call from VT, tried to leverage it into greater privileges (after a 17-15 season  ), and the administration politely suggested he take the offer if he felt that way. He's stubborn enough I can see it as a possibility. Just a rumor, though.
This is my opinion. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

As best you know or to the extent you can comment on it, are you guys okay with respect to the administration of the program? In other words, I can't imagine he did anything inappropriate as far as sanctions are concerned.

Marquette and Marquette's basketball program has way too much going forward for a coach to have to stoop to that level.

Buzz is on the halftime show for the Michigan versus Texas game.

The first question was why did he make the change. He dodged the question. Overall, so far, the interview seems to be okay in my book. He has been highly complementary of Marquette.

They are referring to the ACC as the premier conference. I would love to be a fly on the wall right now; I wonder what they are talking about off-camera.

We seem to be pretty clear of sanctions. Someone posted a rumor about sanctions on one of the MU boards, but then someone from the athletic department (and verified to actually be from the athletic dept) actually came on the board and shot the rumors down, which is something that I have never seen before.

We are in a weird position right now. We have an interim President, an interim Athletic Director and no head basketball coach. It will be a challenge to get high quality candidates interested in the position because it's possible that the new AD and President could have different agendas moving forward.

It's also worth noting that the former President (Wild) and AD (Cords) are the interim figure heads. Their replacements both resigned (presumably from pressure from the BOT for not doing as well as their predecessors).

You see some of the donations that have been coming in since Wild came back? I hope he never leaves again.

Fr. Wild is THE man. I hope the new president is his younger twin.
