Trolling

Postby admin » Sat Mar 22, 2014 9:37 am

I really don't like imposing restrictions on posters on a public message board, but it's clear that some users are clearly here to troll. Most have a very clear agenda so I will be making some changes to try and reduce this. Please contact me with any questions.

Thank you. Maybe you could create a category for X vs Ud fans to go. Called "The never ending last word"

You should have tiers of punishment. Like banned for a day, or from creating or posting in certain threads. Or even giving someone a "troll" badge. Idk, I agree we could all be more civil and positive though.

It's a delicate balance that you have to strike. I think you guys do a good job of letting discussions go, even if heated (looking at you X-Dayton guys).

And I thank you for the time and effort that you and the other mod(s) put into the site. Cheers.

I honestly think some of these posters have to be fans of other schools. There is no way a fan base can have this many obnoxious posters. And some have very similar names of their rival school has on their message board. Admin should verify ips for multiple accounts

I concur with this idea that many trolls are not even from the school they claim to be. And its not just sports boards. You will find trolls on the most sensitive of boards dealing with a serious accident and they turn it into a political board or worse. There are posters who live for riling up other posters. And what better way to do it than pick rival schools and start obnoxious posts.

Don't know how you can control it but I do not believe all these acidic/toxic posters are from the school or fan base they claim to be. Other than having everyone join under there real names (using credit cards etc) to identify them its nearly impossible to know. Its the nature of anonymous message boards.

Charge a dollar with a credit card when they register to establish their identity but keep it private only accessible by admins and let the posters use their anonymous sign in name.

I don't know if checking ip's is really a practical idea considering how many posters do fly-by type posts. I think charging, even a dollar, would discourage a lot of people from joining.

Thanks admin, for all the work you do.
This is my opinion. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

I'm just throwing ideas out there. Never rana. Site like this so i dont know what their limits are. Just seems a few schools in particular that dont get along have more trolls than rest the BE schools combined
