Could be the administration or he just wanted something new to build his own. The ACC is a challenging place to do it. Marq fans could clue us in on his affection for the community.

Don't know if I agree with the tv argument - but comparing the BE/FS1, with the B1G and the highly successful network its schools own, isn't correct.

Maryland left the ACC for the B1G, primarily because of its sports network. It is a machine, and I can't believe how successful it is. Big Ten teams also play on ESPN, don't know how that all works out - since the Big East plays on another network, but has been shunned by "the mothership"

I think from a coaching perspective, maybe not. Mentally though- did the Big East in the early 80's lose a coach like this to the ACC?

I mean, think about this- would we see a Bennett going from UVA to DePaul? This makes us look like we're a stepping stone to the P5 conferences. That's the bad thing about this move. .

Coming from an A10 fan like Stever, I'm not that worried.

Not a big deal, given that MU is no house of cards. The oBE wasn't built by coaches at no name schools. The only school in the BE that fit that mold is/was cuse lol. Every other school has had numerous solid to excellent coaches since those iconic days. You know why, because players leave legacies too, not just coaches. Good players will still want to play at the school D-Wade, Jimmy Butler, Wes Matthews, etc graduated from regardless who the coach is. Just watch who MU hires, that will tell us the true strength of the program more than buzz leaving for whatever personal reasons.

Of course they did . . . or its equivalent.

Dr. Tom Davis left BC where he was running a very successful program to go to Iowa. He was replaced by Gary Williams who subsequently left for Ohio State.

Rick Pitino left Providence after taking them to the Final Four to go to the Knicks.

Even Daddy Mass eventually left Villanova for why he thought was a better deal.

The sky is not falling. Coaches actually move on even from elite schools. Larry Brown left BOTH Kansas AND UCLA. Bill friended left Michigan when it was on the verge of winning a national championship.

I also find the TV argument silly.

From Rush The Court's Brian Otskey

@botskey: Marquette was on national TV more times this year than ever before, yet ESPN will tell you the old Big East got more exposure.

I'm sure Greg Marshall took time away from preparing for his team's game tonight to put himself in the running for Marquette. Didn't happen!! Someone is just stirring the pot unnecessarily at this time.

I'm also sure that IU would be glad to give Marquette Tom Crean back. He has worn out his welcome in Bloomington.

You realize Greg Marshall probably has an agent right? And that the agent is handling 99.9% of the process until the coach actually interviews? All Greg would have to do at this point while he is coaching is just tell his agent, "I'm busy, but I'm not saying no right now." If there were actually serious problems between the Marquette administration and Buzz Williams I wouldn't be surprised if Marquette was proactive in contacting Greg Marshall's agent during the season.

Also, Greg Marshall would be an absolute homerun, but I don't put too large of a chance on it happening. Everyone is going to be throwing money at him this offseason. That said, I think Marquette is the most prestigious coaching position in the Big East and has some deep pockets, so I am not ruling it out by any means.

The TV argument is nonsense and if that is why he is leaving, just wait until he finds out that DePaul will be on TV more than VaTech next season. It's a bad move for Buzz. At Marquette, he had a successful program that was established in a very tough conference. Now, he has a pretty bad program that does not even have a sniff of any history of success and is going to have to jump eight teams just to finish in seventh. Marquette will be fine. They will get who they want.

If VA Tech is such a great job, why didn't Shaka take it? He must have been contacted.

Wow VA Tech isn't a very good ball program. If this is true, they're either trying to up efforts throwing money to snag him to keep up with the ACC Jones or Buzz is not liking how things are playing out in the NBE and is jumping ship. I'm hoping its just ridiculous $$$.
