The newcomers have been great for the league and every program seems to be in a position to get better (except maybe DePaul but I don't really know what the deal is there). You don't want a league where the same three teams win every year. You want a league where everyone is good and competitive on a regular basis. You had Nova with two conferences losses. Creighton finishes in second place. Three teams tie for third above .500 in conference play. That is a really good start. It looks pretty good that we are going to get four teams in the NCAA. Would five have been better? Sure. Had St. John's beaten Penn State and DePaul early on, they would likely have been just in. Had Georgetown won a few more games, they would be in. But they didn't and they won't be and that's the way it works. Next season will probably be different. Teams will move up, some will move down, and others may stay about the same. That's what you want. This was an exciting season for the BEast. I saw nothing that gave me any concern at all going forward. We are finally stable, have a good TV contract, have great teams that put on some very entertaining games in great venues. When the season finally comes to a close and we put the whole thing together, it will have been a very good opening season for a conference that was only announced one year ago.

The engine of this conference goes through St. John's? If my calculations are correct, St. John's overall record for the last 15 seasons is 237-227. They have missed the NCAA Tournament 12 out of 15 years and have a grand total of 2 tourney wins in that time. I think St. John's program is trending in the right direction and I hope it continues, but I damn sure wouldn't group them with GT, Nova and Marquette. Those teams have all had significant NCAA Tournament success over the last 15 years. St. John's has had virtually none.

None? They did get to an elite 8 within the past 15 years. That's a little better than none.

15 seasons have now gone by since that elite 8 year 2000-2014 is 15 seasons. I think that's what he's talking about.

Precisely. Freshmen on this year's St. John's team were in preschool when the Red Storm made that run.

For comparison, Seton Hall's record since 2000 is 250-219 w/ 3 NCAA bids (1 Sweet 16) and a record of 12-9 versus St. John's.
I'm just objectively throwing that out there, not trying boast nor cast aspersions.

If someone would have said "Wanna bet that SJ, Nova, and G'Town all lose in the first round?" a week ago, I would have bet my car against that.
Our perception is extremely weak now. Glad PC won, and SHU got the upset, and DePaul got the upset, but the truth is those can't be the ones leading the way if we want to be taken seriously. What a terrible first year so far. Our only hope is Nova or Creighton making a deep run. But that seems very unlikely the way things have played out recently.
RIP old Big East.
