You can talk about upsets being good all you want, but it's like the AL East with the Yanks and Red Sox bowing out early. It's not the same. Respectability is lost. The next time some one is forced to defend the AL East it becomes much harder because they can say the 2 premier teams sucked. Same goes for the Big East. It is what it is, right or wrong the engine of this conference goes through SJ, G'Town, Nova, and Marquette. Creighton too if somehow they can keep finding 2 star players and convert them into Wooden players but the odds are not in favor of that.
Did a Creighton fan really just curse me out via a meme while another one asked if SJ could be replaced with SL? Are you kidding? Listen noob, this is your first year in major competition away from your little rickety MVC. You haven't earned your stripes yet here. Even if you make it to the Final Four which will be near impossible, next year you lose everyone. EVERYONE. It may shock your fan base because many of you don't seem to know what's on the horizon. You are like the new guy in a frat that thinks he's one of the boys already. An intern that tells his elders off. If it weren't for our conference you would still be a mid major being made fun of by fans who say you only face crappy MVC teams (like Wichita State fans are going through now). Most of the Creighton fans have been fun to have here and very classy but a few of you guys are disrespectful and have no idea where your place is as a noob. Imagine a SJ fan posting a "How about a big cup of shut the f--- up?" meme on a Nova or Creighton fan's post? Oh man it would be WWIII.
I'm not overreacting and I'm not even pissed specifically at SJ. I knew we'd probably lose. I'm angry at the WHOLE situation. The first few years set the stage and can set the expectations for what this conference is and how fans will take it. I know there are going to be years we are like the A-10 clicking on all cylinders, but I just hope to god they are far more numerous than years like this.
This is the stupidest thing I've heard. I feel sorry that great SJU fans have people like you to represent them on this board. This is year ONE of the conference and you're are ready to jump off the deep end? We'll be fine. I made the SLU comment tongue-in-cheek.
Secondly, the thing that bothers me with the vocal minority of SJU fans is your delusional view of reality. If the BE is like the AL East then Georgetown and Villanova are the Yankees/Red Sox,
NOT SJU. SJU is the Orioles. Sure, you've done good things in the past but that doesn't mean people expect you to be "engine the conference goes through." Here's a dose of reality: nationally, SJU doesn't register on the same level as G'town, Nova, or Marquette. They don't...and I don't expect you to believe me. They may resonate in the northeast and , based on how a few SJU fans have told us all ad nauseum how much better New York is than the rest of the country, in New York itself. I may be just a dumb hick from Omaha and our rickety MVC conference, but I've lived and traveled all over the mid-west and the west coast. SJU doesn't have the brand equity you seem to think they do. Before this year, if you asked anyone outside the Northeast what comes to mind when you think Big East, here's what they'd say: Syracuse, Georgetown, Louisville, UConn, Villanova, Marquette. And I mean this in absolutely no disrespect to Seton Hall, but SJU carries the clout of Seton Hall nationally. You aren't thought of as standard-bearer of the conference.
As for being disrespectful...are you kidding me? You expected the fans of the 3 new teams to come in and kiss the ring and bow down to you because we are "noobs?" Get real-- Xavier, Creighton, and Butler can stand on their own merits and don't have to bow down to the new teams, as CU and XU have proven this year. The idea of having pay homage to
St. John's of all schools?
Look in the mirror if you want to see disrespect. You and Lavinwood have been nothing but condescending and disrespectful to the new teams. Anything good you've had to say about CU especially has been a backhanded compliment. Look at your comments above as an example.
And yes, you don't need to remind CU fans that we lose almost our entire starting line up. We are aware. I fully expect to be playing Wednesday night next year...but we're going to keep grinding and trying to get better and compete in this conference. We aren't going away. I suggest that you worry about yourself. Why should the bottom of the conference have to apologize for winning? Why play the games then? Here's a novel concept--teams want to get better and improve their position in the conference! They don't want to roll over for the "bluebloods" every year. If DePaul, SHU, and Butler improve then the conference improves. It's up to the usual suspects to get better and not lose.
The funniest thing out of this whole SJU bitch-fest is that Providence was the higher seed (and the better team) the entire year and you act like it was a huge upset. But I'm sure it was the refs fault or some sort of conspiracy that the mighty Red Storm and all their athletes lost to lowly Providence.
