Since Xavier is so much better than UD, why has Dayton won a game against Xavier five years in a row, leading up to this season?

Butler's biggest rival this season is good offense and defense. I'm hoping it doesn't become a yearly clash though.

Most years I would say it's Xavier, but of the things I dislike the most in this world, Xavier's pretty far down the list.

Ha! It must be hard not having any relevant ammo.

Since my friend from Providence has already "Jimmy Cartered" you, and since I guess you want Dayton embarrassed even more on this forum:

- Xavier versus UD in the NCAA Tournament: Xavier.

- Xavier versus UD in the A10: Xavier.

- Xavier versus UD in placing players in the NBA: Xavier.

- Xavier versus UD in being invited into the Big East: Xavier.

Dayton won against Xavier in Dayton because it was Dayton's Super Bowl - Little Brother clawing for a sense of self worth as it otherwise meandered its way to .500 conference seasons, NIT appearances and a reputation for being a do-nothing mid-major.

There isnt (at least when i was there and as far as i know today) any deep seeded hatred or anomoisity toward any conference rival. URI is probably the most heated but i think the "must win" attitude, or wishing failure on the other is more one sided on URI's side.
In conference Villanova probably is most similar to PC in terms of student body, academics etc. BC was always popular draw. I'd say a majority of people from PC have spouses, friends, siblings or other relatives that attend(ed) Nova and/or BC so that is kind of a "bragging rights" rivalry
if the BE wanted to "establish" pairs I would do it this way
MARQUETTE/CREIGHTON- Battle of the midwestern Jesuits. Maybe Battle for the BIRDS
DEPAUL/ST JOHNS Chicago vs New York Who has the best PIZZA?
SETON HALL/XAVIER Hmmm. SWORD FIGHT? pirates and muskateers both have them.
VILLANOVA/PROVIDENCE- Battle to see who gets more students from new jersey and long island?
BUTLER/GEORGETOWN - (bull) DOG FIGHT!

Slapping a name on something or establishing some corny traveling trophy doesn't make a rivalry. Even having things in common doesn't make a rivalry. Rivalries emerge on their own. Marquette (a northern, basketball-first, catholic school) and Louisville (A southern, public, football school) had almost nothing in common, but the battles those two teams had throughout the 2000s made it a date to circle on the calendar.
Al McGuire: "What is this?"
Waiter: "Mr. McGuire, that is a cull lobster. Sometimes when the lobsters are in the tank, they fight. This one lost a claw."
Al McGuire: "Well then take this one away and bring me the winner."

that is true and i was (at least i thought so) trying to be funny with the names. there should be some kind of connection for a rilvary. can fox help create that by airing these "rivalries" at some predetermined time? calling it such wont make a rivalry i know. they need to start somewhere and at sometime. can a bb league get away with rivalries like football schools do? (lil brown jug etc)

just the facts

UD XU series (since 1948) 76-59
Through the 2010-11 season, Dayton leads the all-time series 81-69. The longest streak in the Atlantic 10 belongs to both Xavier and Dayton for 150 meetings between the two. Starting in the 2013–14 season, the matchup is once again a non-conference rivalry, after Xavier left the A10 to become a founding member of the current Big East Conference.

UD vs XU record at UD arena - UD leads 31-11

Pretty much. Also, grats to Dayton for beating up on Xavier when they sucked in the 60s and 70s. You know, when no current players were even alive.
