First of all congrats to Xavier for the win. Well deserved, great defensive pressure, and great shooting. You forced a lot of passing turnovers that we usually don't commit. Marsh, you are a little arrogant in all the comments I read on this board. Unless you are a college coach, easy with your all your declarations. McD gets blocked a lot going through the lane , since he is a top player. To assume he is just falling down does nothing to add to your credibility. As one of the coaches told us, think about how mentally and physically tough this kid is when he is the KEY defensive stop for EVERY team they play. If you saw every game where the little things he takes to get him off his step, maybe you wouldn't be so sure of your analysis, But you, as me, have never been in that position. Just appreciate what the kid is and does.

You misunderstood my comment. I didn't accuse Doug of flopping. You can look at the time I posted to identify the play I was talking about. Doug was driving down the lane, cutting on an arc from the right side of the foul line to make his move to the left side of the basket, dribbling with his left hand. The defender was backing off. Given that he was leaning and cutting Ina little bit of a circle route, his momentum arrived him in such a way that he simply lost his footing dell as he was driving.he may have been anticipating contact from the defender which never came.there was no foul.It was a turnover, plain and simple.

I was not criticizing Doug in the slightest. If he gets calls, that's to his credit. I think the world of him as a player. How can any fan of college hoops not love his game? He's so fundamentally sound and Does it all. He's the closest thing I've seen to Larry Bird since Bird retired. My criticism is entirely of the refs.

My initial comments were made to compliment the Xavier team - a well deserved win. However, your response about a singular play was not in your comment. You specifically said, "]
Bill Marsh wrote:Tell me McDermott doesn't get star treatment. He just fell down of his own momentum and X got called for a foul. Sheesh!
that does not indicate a singular play. Who makes that statement on a "singular play"? Obviously you believe Doug gets star treatment or why the comment? The physical pounding this kid takes every game to take him out of his game is unbelievable. Stop with the backhanded compliments when you think he gets star treatment ( especially now that we know you meant only one play during the game). Just stand up for what you said, one play or more likely " just star treatment" through the season. Congrats to Xavier on a great win.

1. My comment was provoked by one particular play in this particular game.
2. I've seen him get the same treatment before in other games. So, yes, I believe he gets star treatment at other times.
3. The pounding he gets is "unbelievable"? Please. He gets the same pounding that anyone else gets who dominates the ball and takes it inside. Maybe things were different in the Valley.
4. My comments are not a criticism of him.
5. Calm down,
Bill Marsh

So what if he gets star treatment....he's a two time All-American and will be a NPOY. I think he deserves some "star treatment," he's earned it. Happens in the NBA all the time.

I agree. So what? It makes the game harder to watch and leaves me shaking my head when a foul gets called on someone who never touched him like yesterday. No different than when I see a jump stop and a walk isn't called. Or players palm the ball to gain an advantage and nothing is called. They're all part of the game, but not parts I enjoy.

You know what's worse than the bolded part? When someone uses a jump stop and then takes another step and a walk still isn't called, how's that work?

Did you ever see anyone use. The jump stop in the '80's? Where did that move even come from?

I think you will be pleasantly surprised as there really aren't any nosebleed seats. What section are you in?

216 for me and my wife.

Aside from the outcome of the game, I am curious to hear what you and any other Jays fans thought about the Cintas Center and what your experience was like.

Fans were very respectful. No one bad mouthed us or anything like that. Had a good time. Cintas Center kind of reminded me of the Centurylink Center crowds at Creighton. Wasn't super loud all the time but fans got loud and excited when Xavier needed them.

Thanks. Hope the same Xavier team shows up against Nova later this week!

That sounds very accurate. On one of the Xavier boards, some posters are discussing how the crowd at Cintas is "reactionary." They'll cheer and get loud when big plays happen or a big possession is about to happen (or if they don't like the refs' call), but otherwise they are fairly quiet. Definitely not one of the more hostile atmospheres in college basketball, maybe above average, with a strong home winning percentage partly due to fielding a lot of good teams and playing in the A10.
