Another must see game tonight in the Big East. Crunch time part of the year.

Georgetown at Marquette, 9pm, FS1.

Both GU and MU have won 5 of their last 7. This game could mean a lot in the final standings... Marquette going for sweep... the group of us in the midpack are trying to avoid the 7-vs-10 BET Wednesday night game. MU's RPI is at 76. GU's improved to 60 after last night's games... losses by NC State, Boise, Nebraska, Richmond and Indiana State.

huge game for Georgetown. A win, and looking very possible for a tourney spot. A loss, and that's probably gone, and forget that 7/10 game, we may be in that 8/9 game. We'd have to beat either Nova or Creighton to just avoid the 7/10 game.

Marquette I feel folks are sleeping on a bit. tonight is huge for them. If they could beat either Villanova or PC next Sun/Tue- they would be going into that last game with St John's with a shot at 11 conference wins and 19 overall. That's getting real close to a tourney spot with like 1 win in the BET.

Both teams are 16-11, and hanging on by the slimmest of threads to their tournament chances. Is tonight effectively an elimination game?

with the remaining schedules- you would have to say so. I mean a loss- and either team would have to get back in a position to make the tourney beat Villanova on the road.

Just read that GTown hasn't won at marquette in 6 years... That's longer than even I've been here. But when I think of all those game they've always been crazy crazy close.

Marquette is tied with Xavier for the third fewest losses in the conference, whereas Georgetown is two games back, so in that sense I have to root for Georgetown. I also think the Hoyas have a slight edge in tournament chances. Both teams played good non-conference schedules, which is important for bubble teams, but Georgetown actually notched some wins in that slate.

Georgetown played at Marquette in...
2013 (MU 49, GTown 48)
2012 (MU 83, GTown 69)
2010 (MU 62, GTown 59)
2009 (MU 94, GTown 82)

The last Georgetown win in Milwaukee was a 70-68 win on MU's Senior Day in 2008, where Georgetown was stupidly, stupidly fouled while heaving a desperation three with time running out, allowing them to make all three free throws to force overtime, IIRC. The two teams also met in Milwaukee in MU's inaugural Big East campaign in 2006, with MU emerging 57-51 victors over the Hoyas.

Don't like Georgetown's chances in this game but if they ever needed a game, this would be it.

Yeah but all those marquette teams were much better than this year's marquette team.

There's no real shame in dropping those games @ Marquette. I think they're a result of playing a very good NCAA tournament or better team at their place. That's not the case this time. This is arguably Marquette's weakest team since they joined the BE, so if there was ever a chance to get a win @ Marquette this might be it.
