So much St. John's hate. Just wow. I never realized how many SJ haters there were until I came to this site.
If there's any team you should be rooting for if your team is out, it's us. Our rookie phenom Jordan had his best friend, aunt, and uncle murdered all within not even a year. The kid is all class and wants to give back to his community in the worst way. You may hate it or deny it. Either way, NYC is the capital of the world and when you win here it's great for the conference as a whole. It garners much more hype. It renews an old legendary program. Rooting for SJ to fail is counterintuitive if you want the Big East to have any respect at all. Just like when the Yankees win baseball is much more hyped up and many more people care and watch. When the Giants are winning, the NFL is more hyped up and many more people care and watch. When the Knicks…you get the point. Same for St. John's.
This is a program that has been down for so long with a legendary past that has had some of the worst luck you will see. Snakebitten. Injuries to key players at key times. Off the court issues at key times. Eligibility issues. Suspensions to key players at key times. The whole 9. We are the guys who have shown signs of life but been down on our luck. You should root for that kind of team.
RIP St. John's season. It was a thrill but I knew deep down in my gut that it seemed too good to be true. Lavin did just enough to save his job and get the team on the bubble, but also fail. Brilliant. Even making the tournament at all for this program has been so elusive. The 0-5 start and the 8 to 10 games decided by single digits we lost did us in. When something seems too good to be true, it usually is. I hope the Garden is empty for DePaul. People complain we have low attendance. Are you watching? These games are why. We have a chance to finally put the final nail in the coffin but we falter every time. This program is snakebitten and I'm a realist and an empiricist, but it really seems like there is a curse on this team.
