Boeheim missing the Big East

Postby redmen9194 » Mon Feb 24, 2014 8:01 pm

Saw the post game presser of Jim Boeheim and you can tell he is missing the Big East. First they bring up the fact that he said after the Pitt game that it was a "Big East game. Forget the ACC". He laughed and said I can't say anything anymore without getting into trouble down here. Then he was asked about the Duke crowd. He said, "Lou Carnesecca told me they can get as loud as they want up there but they're not going to score any points". Then when talking about playing Maryland tonight, he mentioned that they were off on Saturday while Syracuse played. He then said, "We didn't do that in the other league. Wait, I can't mention the other league. Oh, but I just did. " (If you were playing on Big Monday and had a game the Saturday before, your opponent also played the Saturday before). Funny stuff.

Saturday Night, he also misplaced his mind. I guess it happens.

I am glad he took a stand against those refs. It actually made be respect JB way more. The last 8 min or so was a complete joke. The Cuse got completely screwed. While that last one may have been the proper call, it was just the straw that broke the camel's back. I guess he just learned what everybody else in the ACC already knew: you have to beat Duke by 15 to get a 1 point victory at Cameron.

Edit: I do understand you can't effectively end the game for your team though. His techs iced the game for Duke.

I don't think defending Syracuse will make ya a lot of friends around here.

I give him a lot of credit for speaking his mind. But when you have 900 wins you can do that. I guarantee someone told him to tone down the BE love and he said that as an F U. 2 of the most memorable games that I was at in college was the 20+ pt win SHU had against Cuse for the BE Tourn title game, and another big win at the Meadowlands where we all stormed the court. Of course I was at more loses than I can remember.

Look, I can't stand cuse at all. But JB has always been a Big East guy and one thing about him is he calls it as he generally sees it. During the 2010-2011 season, the Big East was getting a ton of publicity. The johnnies were in seventh place in the conference or something like that when they destroyed duke at the garden and coach K made a comment that it did not mean that the big east was better than the ACC. Boeheim is then at his own post game press conference and is asked about the big east schedule and he says everyone knows we have the best conference. The only ones who haven't figured it out yet are that group down south. It was very good.

I'm going to be kind of curious to watch that ESPN special a few weeks from now where Boeheim will be on there talking about the old Big East.

I kind of think if it weren't for the Olympics in 2016, he would have stepped down after last year. Think that's the only thing keeping him there.

Screw Cuse. I know JB wanted to stay in the Big East, but the university thought they were too good for the conference that gave them a name. Syracuse was the Big East. It was the perfect placement. They got MSG for their alumni during the tourney and each SJ game. They got the classic rivalries with SJ, G'Town and Nova. They got a championship and they were nice and comfortable. Then in the middle of the night they packed their bags with Pitt and tried to fix something that wasn't broken. I still remember pulling up to class at St. John's hearing "Breaking News...Syracuse and Pitt shockingly leave the Big East for the ACC". I literally pulled over and said "WHAT?!".

They will be a top 10 team as long as JB is there. But just wait until he retires to see the true effects of leaving. So far, Notre Dame, WVU, BC, Miami (sans the occasional year), Virginia Tech, etc. have all fallen off. There is a clear dropoff in most of the basketball programs once they leave the Big East. Why the old Big East schools choose to fall on a sword to end their basketball tradition is beyond me. College football only matters in the south. Guess they will learn the hard way. The only way the moves make sense is if Pitt and Cuse and the other guys compete for the title in football.

Dear UConn, Memphis, and Cincy, the water's nice over here! Come on over!

Syracuse basketball and JB never wanted to leave the Big East. You think they like playing Clemson, VT, Boston College , NC state in the middle of no where ? Jim Boeheim hates the ACC but what can he do ? Football screwed everything up. Jim Boeheim will always be Big East.
Big East football would have just as good as ACC football is now and they'd still be in the best basketball conference ever. The school administrators are the real villians .
