Madison Square Garden tickets are expensive !

Marquette you would lose the bet. The cost is at a minimum $100,000 per game for the Johnnies to play at the Garden. That's what it was under the prior contract and a university official indicated they needed over 9,000 to break even. And they can certainly afford it. So far Garden attendance has been as follows:

Fordham: 10,803
Syracuse: 16,357
Villanova: 11,707
Marquette: 12,561
Creighton: 6,739
Georgetown: 10,340
Butler: 7,002

Creighton was the lowest likely because it was a Sunday night and the reality is for most St. John's fans they don't view Creighton as a draw yet. Maybe that will change, but for now STJ/Creighton is not going to be a big draw for a night game in the City. There is too much other stuff going on. Fordham, Cuse, Nova and Quette were all day games. G'Town was a Sunday night but it's Georgetown. You can figure the average ticket price is going to be $40. The lower bowl is usually full and once they get into the 10k area they are into the top portion. The lower bowl seats are generally not cheaper than $60, but with season ticket holders the price is less. So if SJU has paid out $700,000 in rent, they have made $3,020,360 at $40 per ticket. The net comes out to 2,320,360. If the rent went up lets say $20k per year, their profit would still be over 2 million. Interesting note - Marquette pulled in over 12k last year too and was the highest attended game.

My comment about not being able to afford it was in relation to if the price were $350k. No way it's worth it at that price point. It looks like SIIJ was a little high, I was a little low.

If this 100k per game is all inclusive, St. John's has a sweetheart deal then...relative to the going rates for the other events I previously mentioned.

The deal is even better. The johnnies are the only team that gets to use the Knicks locker room, which is changed for the johnnies with SJU carpeting, chairs, pictures, etcetera. That was an addition when lavin first met with garden officials when he was hired.

They absolutely have their own floor. The only time they use the Knicks floor is if the Knicks are playing on the same day.

this is what I meant...that the lanes are red and the floor is used specifically for St. John's, like what Marquette does.

I remember when we got that, it was huge for us. Showing recruits the full on Knicks locker room as our own, it's a great recruiting tool.
