The guy who has a half dozen trips to the sweet 16 isn't a good coach? The guy is 10-1 during the first weekend and has only missed the tournament 3 times as a head coach and one of those seasons he was battling cancer and only had 6 scholarship players on his roster. Yeah he must be horrible! Whats your coaches record look like?
He recruits very well. In fact, I'd say he's one of the better recruiters in the country. Even if he's outcoached in a game, that talent disparity can often make up for it.

"We should have a banner up there, only coach team to make the tournament without a coach". And to talk about recruiting, isnt SJU the only Big East team to not sign anyone for this year? Its not like you are graduating 3 guys, all of your bigs beside Obepka

Marquette 1 Nation Title, 2 Title Game Appearances, 3 Final 4's, 7 Elite 8s, 16 Sweet 16s, 31 Tournament Apperances.
Of Course if we limit things to the Big East Era things look a little different:
Georgetown 1 National Title, 3 Title Game Appearances, 4 Final 4's, 8 Elite 8s, 11 Sweet 16s, 25 Tournament Appearances.
Villanova 1 National Title, 1 Title Game Appearance , 2 Final 4's, 6 Elite 8s, 8 Sweet 16s, 22 Tournament Appearances.
Marquette 0 Nation Titles, 0 Title Game Appearances, 1 Final 4, 2 Elite 8s, 5 Sweet 16s, 17 Tournament Apperances.
Oh sure just skew the data to take away the whole time MU was coached by our hall of fame coach. This is why I said being an MU fan is like being the little brother who's done pretty much everything the other two siblings have but still gets ignored. Why don't we look at our programs pre Big East era? I'll let you look at that.
1) More recent history is clearly more important. The NCAA tournament and Basketball in general were completely different back then. Marquette was a far better program than Georgetown between 1900-1979 good for you. Georgetown has been far better from 1980-2014. I think that's a little more relevant.
2) Even looking at all time data you can't ignore that Marquette has had the least success in terms of Regular season accomplishments which are far from meaningless. I know that Marquette didn't have a conference from 1980-1990, but seeing as you only made the NCAA tournament 3 of those years I think it's safe to assume they wouldn't have come close to catching up in terms of conference titles even if they had been in a conference.
Some of you Georgetown fans should have your mail delivered to the past, you spend so much time living there. But since you brought it up...
"Recent History" (Since 1999-2000...so almost 15 years worth of material)
Marquette: 1 Final Four, 2 Elite 8s, 4 Sweet 16s, 2 Conference Championships
Georgetown: 1 Final Four, 1 Elite 8, 3 Sweet 16s, 3 Conference Championships
Since 1990-91, Georgetown has missed the tournament 9 times. Since 1990-91, Marquette has missed the tournament (gasp) 9 times.
That hardly qualifies as "far better," but congrats on being awesome when Members Only jackets were in style and Timothy Dalton was James Bond.

Villanova - 33 NCAA appearances(#9 all-time), 16 Sweet 16's, 12 Elite 8's, 4 Final 4's, 2 title game appearances, 1 National Championship
Georgetown - 29 NCAA appearances(#16 all-time), 11 Sweet 16's, 9 Elite 8's, 5 Final 4's, 3 title game appearances, 1 National Championship
Villanova has an excellent history, an excellent present, and excellent in-between. That's called sustained excellence for those who are going to play the living in the past card, just trying to get some facts straight in this pissing contest.

Fine but we also get our 1 Conference tournament championship to you 0 in that time frame as well XP
Pretty much no matter how you slice it Georgetown is the best program in the Big East.
As a Big East fan of a Big East Program I use the start of the Big East as the demarcation of the modern Era of Hoops. And it's not only because that's where most of our success lies, doing so throws out one of our Final 4's it's just that when discussing big east programs it makes sense to discuss in the context of the Big East existing.
Oh and it's soon going to be 10 times missing the tournament for Marquette

I would be worried about you guys missing it a 10th time to if I were you. Best program sure... though you do realize you earned that title only because of Patrick Ewing. Kinda like Cincinnati with their back to back titles, sure great program outside of that, but the success that set them apart was simply because of one player way back when.
