Ranking the Best BE Players at Each Position - PG

Postby GumbyDamnit! » Thu Feb 13, 2014 3:03 pm

We're probably getting a clearer picture of the All-BE team by now. DM, Criston, Cotton and Bell are prob. all locks. Someone out of Harrison, Starks, Gardner, Stainbrook, Pinkston, Sampson, Gibbs, Dunham will emerge as the 5th on that list. But I wanted to put out there the best players by position. Below are the stats of the starting 10 PG's in the league. I'll let this sit out there for a few days and then do the same for SG, SF, PF & C.

Rank 1-5. It's interesting because some guys are asked to do more than others, and then guys like Cotton are asked to do everything.

My 5, more so on the eye test than anything else, are:

1. Cotton
2. Starks
3. Arcidiacono
4. Gibbs
5. Jordan / Barlow (tie)

I agree with 1 and 2.

I think Starks will makes first team all BE.

I agree with both of the above points. In fact, I think they are locks for first team, with McDermott. ('Nova may have the two others.)

Also, I guess I still don't consider Cotton to be a PG. I know he is playing it out of desperation, but I still consider him a SG.

Whereas Semaj is really a point guard tasked with playing the 2 most of the time. Some writers have erroneously labeled Dee Davis as Xavier's starting shooting guard, actually, when really Xavier has two point guards starting.

It's Cotton hands down. I can see why some people like Starks, but if I'm looking for a point, Arcidiacono's my 2nd choice. Jordan wouldn't rank very high on my list. That's not a knock on him. He's only a freshman and he's had a big adjustment to make.

Take whatever last place is, and two places below that put Derrick Wilson.
Al McGuire: "What is this?"
Waiter: "Mr. McGuire, that is a cull lobster. Sometimes when the lobsters are in the tank, they fight. This one lost a claw."
Al McGuire: "Well then take this one away and bring me the winner."

I agree, too many hybrid positions out there to make this meaningful. You also have point forwards who are adept at distributing the ball. Teams will have 3 or sometimes 4 guards on the floor at once.

You really looking at wings and power players these days. The 1-2-3-4-5 position descriptions are outdated.

I love how Arcidicacono is protecting the ball this year. If his shooting percentages were respectable, I'd have him 2nd... But they're not, so 3rd or 4th is fair.

Then two below that put John Dawson.
