Who do you really want to beat?

Yes, it is "Rivalry Week" on that other network. As a Georgetown fan, several of the teams I love to hate, including (especially) Syracuse, Pitt, Notre Dame, and West Virginia are no longer with us. However, as we have all played each other at least once in this new league, this got me thinking- who are the teams you want to beat the most in the league (maybe too early for real hate)? Ignore the current standings/rankings. These are the games you will circle on your calendar next year because you just don't like this other team. Mine are below.

1) Villanova: Too young to care about that 1985 "situation" but I have family in the Philly area and there are several Nova alums I know in DC. Similar types of students and familiarity breeds contempt. With the history between the two schools this became the top for me once we stopped playing Cuse.
2) Marquette: Buzz is annoying (though a great coach) and we have had some great matchups.
3) St. John's: Go up to NYC quite a bit and have a few friends who are fans of the Johnnies. This is an old school rivalry for me that is always nice to win. When the Johnnies get the program really going again, this will move up the list since I am sure the Johnnies will let us know how good they are in their NYC type of way (frequently and loudly).

Nova. SJU is long due. And it would guarantee the tourney for us if we can take care of the other teams we should beat.

Butler, butler, butler. It'll be interesting to see if Xavier develops any other rivalries in this league -- I see Marquette as a prime candidate, but for now am satisfied with hating Butler.

Danny Ainge... then maybe Xavier if I still had time afterwards.

Teams I least like in the New BE: Villanova, St. John's, Marquette, and then Xavier. Which pretty much corresponds to the 4 cockiest fan bases in the new BE.

Pretty funny coming from a Georgetown fan.

Marquette.

Of all the teams in the BE, there are probably more ties between Omaha and Marquette than Omaha and any other schools. It is not uncommon for catholic families in Omaha to have one child go to Creighton and one child go to Marquette. Likewise, Creighton recruits Milwaukee and the surrounding areas pretty hard for undergrads.

I would like a rivalry to develop with Xavier, but truth be told I'd have a hard time hating that fanbase; I like X fans.

I hope that Creighton can develop some rivalries in this league. It does seem like there may be a budding rivalry with SJU simply because of this board. If St Louis ever were to be added, I'd see a pretty strong rivalry developing quickly as both schools are Jesuit, reasonably nearby (for midwestern standards) and battle each other a great deal for undergrad enrollment.

Georgetown fans on the whole are the most pessimistic fans of a good team I have found. Georgetown students may be cocky in other areas, but when it comes to the basketball team most Georgetown fans are very depressingly pessimistic.
