Tues 2/11 BE, 2 Games (Marq-SH, XU-Butler).

Postby billyjack » Tue Feb 11, 2014 10:51 am

Saturday and last night were irritating losses for PC. Had 2nd half leads in both, on the road at XU and GU, but came away with losses. Tonight I can finally watch a couple of games on a Friars' off-day, so I won't get agita, and I can just enjoy the action.

Anyway, 2 games tonight:

Marquette at Seton Hall, 7pm, FS1.
Xavier at Butler, 9pm, FS1.

Marquette only has 5 losses in conference games.
Seton Hall has been better on the road than at home.
Xavier has 4 of their next 5 on the road, starting at Hinkle.
Butler follows tonight's game with another home game on Thursday, vs Creighton.

This game is a must-win for Marquette. That being said, Marquette has been remarkably consistent in their inconsistency. Since the Ball State game on December 17th, Marquette has gone W-L-W-L-W-L-W-L-W-L-W-L-W. So if the pattern continues, they're in for an off night.
Al McGuire: "What is this?"
Waiter: "Mr. McGuire, that is a cull lobster. Sometimes when the lobsters are in the tank, they fight. This one lost a claw."
Al McGuire: "Well then take this one away and bring me the winner."

XU-Butler

This is a pick 'em, though I may give the nod to Butler. Xavier has been very mediocre on the road, despite Butler's struggles.

This is a must win for Xavier, if they desire to keep their NCAA tourney hopes alive. They are sitting at 16-7, 6-4 in conference.

Upcoming X schedule
@ Butler
@ Marquette
DePaul
@ Georgetown
@ St Johns
Creighton
@ Seton Hall
Villanova.

How many W's are in there? Xavier is 2-3 this season on the road, and only 1-3 in conference, winning in a vacant All State Arena. If Xavier looses tonight, wow.

I predict that either Xavier wins or they don't. 50/50 either way.

Every game is a must win for Marquette from here on. Frankly, I don't think we have a snowball's chance in hell of pulling it off. Here's hoping we make some noise in the NIT, at least. Those $14,000 NIT credits could be program changing.
This is my opinion. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Rooting for Xavier in this one. Want as many BE teams as possible in the dance.

The other game doesn't really matter to me as I don't think Marquette has a shot at the dance.

With the way St John's has been playing, Marquette needs this one to stay out of the play-in game of the BE tourney.

Must win for Xavier if they want to dance. I wouldn't mind too much if Xavier-Butler goes about two overtimes though.

I think Marquette is going to be hot down the stretch, finishing 5-3 in the league to get to 10-8. I have them winning comfortably tonight.

I think Xavier wins a rock-fight tonight at Hinkle. Not aesthetically pleasing, but a win nonetheless.

These figure to be 2 extremely close games. It could come down to who gets in foul trouble. I'm going with the home teams Butler's too good not to come with a win one of these days. I'm thinking that today's the day.
