Everyone, no matter who you want.

We can all make stats say what we want.

The name of the game is manipulation.

I can make almost any school look better than any other, it all depends what matters to who matters.

Who looks better all depends on what information you leave out of your posts.

to nj redman - Thank you !Finally a post that hits is dead on. Thank you so much for an unbiased opinion regarding UD.

No one is arguing that UD's recent W/L exceeds XU (last 15 years) That is not the point. For all the other reasons and longevitiy of support and national fan base and alumni, 1st 4 every year, UD has held more NCCAA div I basketball tournament games than any other venue, on and on. UD is in this for the long term - it is a proven fact. UD was not added in the 1st round for other reasons. UD officials will tell you off the record that they have been told to bide their time until July 2014 for the announcement that they have been selected with SLU.

Yea! Screw those guys using facts to support their arguments. Anybody can use facts to support an argument. C'mon guys, this is the internet.

Team A
National Championships in the past 30 years - 0, Elite Eight Appearances in the past 30 years - 1, Conference Regular Season Titles in the past 30 years - 3, Private school, Forbes University Ranking - 176

Team B
National Championships in the past 30 years - 0, Elite Eight Appearances in the past 30 years - 1, Conference Regular Season Titles in the past 30 years - 13, Private school, Forbes University Ranking- 32

Hmm who would we want?

Team A - Marquette
Team B - Davidson

- oh notkirkcameron, its not the information you included, its the obvious information you omitted. we would obviously rather have marquette than davidson. we would also rather have richmond than northern iowa. how about we include all relevant information and then we can have a reasonable conversation huh?

^^^Must have missed that 2003 final four. I think we must have been in the elite 8 at some point that year. Or maybe you missed last year? It's cool man, we all make mistakes. And it's a good thing the US News rankings are the gold standard in this country.
This is my opinion. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Yep, I did miss 2003, or 2013. Not sure why, but you are right, but you can see where I was going. I could shape it some other way and make it the same - say elite eights since 2005? but i digress. Also true and I would say that Davison's ranking in the liberal arts schools is more impressive than marquette's in the national category but i wanted an apples for apples comparison so i went with forbes. Either way, I was showing how when we leave out pertinent information (say what conference those regular season titles came in or any other possible stat), we can come to ridiculous conclusions.

In case it wasn't obvious, the point I was trying to make is that Richmond fans are quite proud of their 2011 Sweet 16 appearance, and have cited it repeatedly on this board as a reason why their program can succeed in Richmond/deliver NCAA Tournament credits/is a program on the rise/whatever/etc., but, like you said, the obvious information is left out by Richmond fans. The lousy attendance, the small market, the fact that they haven't been to the NCAA Tournament in the two years since that Sweet 16 run, and given current form, appear likely to make it three seasons in a row without seeing the NCAA Tournament.

And when you compare the criteria that I think we're generally in agreement would be examined, if not necessary for an expansion candidate, in no particular order (1.) recent success, 2.) historical success/program pedigree/brand, 3.) size of media market, 4.) geographic location, 5.) no FBS football, 6.) institutional fit), then Richmond doesn't look that impressive, and should be a cautionary tale against adding teams with recent cinderella success for the long haul.

The point isn't "We should take Northern Iowa instead of Richmond." It's "Taking Richmond is like taking Northern Iowa."

Or, put another way, if the Richmond Spiders played in Iowa instead of Virginia; in a similarly-sized market, drew a similar number of fans, had a similar level of historical success and recent success, but oh boy they're a ranked liberal arts school, would anyone think they were a credible expansion candidate?

... or, more accurately, you could call them the VCU of Cedar Falls, IA with slightly less attendance and recent success but with a coach with hair on his head. And more purple.

I guess it's fitting that SLU is kind of the boring addition. We have had our success of late by being exactly that.

BW, you have nothing to worry about. According to the UD fan, special, supersecret whispers have already taken place to UD officials and apparently SLU officials.

You guys are joining us this summer!
